My battery is a Ni-Cd. I bought it new on eBay (TL26554 battery number). I allowed the new battery to charge for a long time and then tried to see if it would work. But no go....the handset gave me the same error message. Good Luck to you too! Mmmmmm

SOURCE: handset has No link to base
I was having the same problem with the same model phone, and fixed the problem by rebooting the phone – unplugging the AC and phone cord from the base station and plugging both back it, then removing and replacing the handset to regenerate the security code.

ok, the link isn't working properly, so I'll try to explain:
step 1 press "program" button, then **1234
step 2 enter 000
press next (or spkr phn button) for date
press next (or spkr phn button) for time
press fwd/dnd button
press fwd/dnd button again
press sel (or auto answer/mute button) to change am/pm
press store (or auto dial/store)
press end (or hold button)
press spkr phn button or pick up hand set and hang up to leave programming mode.

SOURCE: PHILIPS ID937 phone.
Fixed:) Ok so I bought 2 extension handsets from different people off of Ebay, both new. First one wouldnt register or would say incorrect pin (0000). So I tried the second one, same thing. Here is what I did: When attempting registering, make sure the handset is physically on top of the main base station, IE charging. Start the registration process on the handset and press-hold (dont let go) the locate handset button instead of press and hold for 3 seconds (like the manual says to). If that didnt work, I removed the batteries and tried pressing and holding the same button for 3 seconds, then release. Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat. If the handset timed out and went back to the main unregistered instruction screen. I took the batteries out and tried again. It was a bit of trial and error but each cycle I removed the batteries to reset the handset. First extension handset took 20 minutes of head scratching, the second 2 minutes. Hope this helps someone. The build and sound quality on these units are great, the tech support....not so much.
