I haveQRS10chigago pneumatic air compressor starts up works then shuts off give it time starts again turns off has oil

how long between starting and shutting off and restarting again
they cycle to keep air pressure within predetermined limits
stop when a pressure is reached and starts when that pressure falls below a set pressure
will run all the time if the pressure cannot be maintained from the air being used
other than that your statement gives little to go on

I have a Central Pneumatic 38898 pancake compressor that will not shut off when the pressure reaches pre-set PSI. I have replaced the pressure switch but to no avail...HELP!!

There must be a blockage on the fitting where the pressure switch goes in that stops the air pressure from reaching the regulator. Try taking the switch off and turn the compressor on and see if air comes out the hole

How do I adjust tank pressure

By letting air out.

Remove the pressure regulator plasic cover (usually one screw) and there will be 2 adjustment screws. One is for "cut-in" pressure (to start the compressor when the pressure drops below the set point), the other is for "cut-out" (to stop the compressor once that set point has been reached.

Mac 5200 pumps pressure to 140lbs. then blows off pressure until 120lbs is reached. Cut in is about 115lbs. I have replaced main switch and it still does same. Tried small adjustments on mainswicth st

Check your Safety Valve. It is on the back of the tank sometimes on one of the pressure switch ports or on the air manifold. It has a ring on it to pull to relieve pressure from the tank. The spring in these can get overheated so they don't hold air unless the tank gets over 165 psi. When the motor is running hold the center pin in to see if you have the same results. If the valve holds air until you let it go, replace it.

Compressor motor keeps running and the tank relief valve opens and pressure is released. why will the motor not stop when pressure reaches 150psi

Hi,
The pressure switch has gone bad....there is a switch that is to stop it and then restart it on pressure...either the switch is bad or the tube is plugged...going to the switch.

Motor "bogs down" at roughly 120 psi...almost stops

You suspect this unit as being a two stage because of the unusually high cut off pressure. It is a single stage and the motor really has a difficult task and is being pushed to the limits. to reach this pressure. We usually reset the pressure to lower setting ~~ say around 140. Your pump probably has a leaking intank check valve (brass fitting at tank) or leaking valve plate in pump. Simple tests : with pressure in tank unplug compressor from outlet and listens for air leak around pressure switch. As you unplug the running compressor from outlet you should hear air leaking from pressure switch for just a moment as air is let out of airline from pump to tank. If air leaks out till zero pressure then change the valve. If tank holds pressure then valve probably ok. Next test, with no air in tank and air filter removed, plug in compressor and feel intake port for strong suction. If the valve plate is bad, suction will decrease as pressure neers the 120 mark till the point of feeling that air is actually blowing out of intake. With good valve plate there will be strong suction untill unit reaches set pressure. If valve plate is bad also change the cylinder and piston ring. Good luck with your repair.

Put new switch on compressor and now wont shut off.

the regulator is failing to do its job. make sure you have it set properly. if you did, you will likely need a new one. also remember to drain the compressor every month to prevent rust from moisture build up in the tank. good luck.

Pop off valve on return line leaking compressor keeps running turn compressor off stops leaking whats up?

Once the pop off valve reaches its opening point, it will stay open as long as the pressure is above that point. When you shut the compressor off, the pressure leaks down until the pop off valve closes. Sounds like the pressure regulator is set a little too high. If you can turn the regulator switch down, it should fix it.

I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number. The price is about the same. Good Luck on your repair.
