To get access to the manual, the site wanted me to signup for a membership which would've cost me $25. Very disappointed in this result!

Ok,Richard, your chain saw has problems from what I read on line,it says it's hard to start and won't stay running, seen a you tube video and the guy can;t get it started, that ain'y you is it,but to start, push switch to on,pull choke all the way out, lock throttle in and pull string, when it sounds like it wants to start ,push choke in and pull till it starts.

Not much to go on...
Check to make sure the saw has sufficient fuel. Correct resistor plug, proper compression and spark. If the saw still will not start check flywheel and make sure the key is not sheared.

Mac 3516 chainsaw won't start

Electronic ignition units work off speed of rotation so make sure yoy are cranking the engine fast enough, make sure the plug is well earthed against the cylinder whilst cranking, make sure the switch is in the on position, if there is still no spark you will have to replace the unit.

Why will homelite 290 chainsaw not start?

Make sure you have blue, snappy spark at the plug (set at 0.020"). If ok, put some fuel mix in the plug hole and try to start--it should pop several times. If pops, then check the fuel system. Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Go to: for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetors for theory and troubleshooting. Be sure to check the placement of the gasket in the lower chamber. Hope this helps!

Make sure you have spark to the plug, make sure the plug is clean and dry, squirt some starting fluid into the plug hole and put the plug back in and try it. If it fires and then quits you probably have a fuel problem
