Question about Dometic RM2193 Compact Refrigerator With Ice Box

1 Answer

The compressor is running and warm to the touch. The reason we defrosted was their was so much ice buildup in top freezer part, it was cracking the plastic basin under it. We unplugged the unit and allowed it to defrost. Replugged it and now it runs but does not cool at all.

SOURCE: Not getting cool enough

this sounds like a compressor problem. if the outside coils are getting hot (and properly ventilated) but the inside of the unit is not getting cold then the heat is coming from the compressor.

You have a switch inside the door. Turn it on this actually keeps the light on inside. This may help with your humidity problem. Also check to make sure the drain out side of the coach is not clogged you should see water coming out

SOURCE: Same problem freezer is ice cold and the fridge is warm.

Make sure that the knob that controls the opening of the vent so the cold air in the freezer get to the refrigerator is operating. If it does, I don't see any reason why the refrigerator should not work.

Samsung RB195BSBB bottom freezer not cooling

If the ice buildup was by the pipe just going into the evaporator in the freezer compartment and the suction line going into the compressor is warm to the touch and not cold and/or sweating you are low on freon.

If the entire evaporator was buried in ice, the ice covering is also serving as an insulator and preventing internal temps from going down any further. There is a problem with the self defrosting mechanism which is designed to prevent the ice buildup. Could be either the defrost timer, defrost thermostat or the defrost heating element. Hope that it is just the heater element. If you have an electronic module for the rest you are in for unpleasant surprise to replace the unit. Proprietary parts mucho expensive plus labor.

Until you fix it, just let the unit manually defrost (U can use a hair dryer to speed it up) and turn it back on again. It will work fine till the ice builds back up. Keep opening and closing of freezer compartment to minimum to minimize moisture laden air that enters compartment.

I have a GE Profile fridge, top freezer. Ice buildup keeps blocking thew evaporator fan. I've defrosted 2x, checked evap drain for blockage. But ice buildup reoccurs after 2-3 days. Turning up the

You have a defrost problem. Locate your defrost timer while the unit is iced up and turn it until you hear a defined click. At this point open the freezer and listen for ice cracking. If Ice starts cracking then it's your defrost timer bad. If ice doesn't crack, then you have a defrost component bad ( heater and Bi-Metal) Ohm out your heating element and replace if there is no continuity. You can usually find defrost timer either under the front of the box, in the fridge around the light or thermostat or sometimes in the back at the bottom. The dial on the timer can only be turned one way with a large flat head. You will hear the difference in the way the clicks sound for the defined click. Good luck.

Cooling quit suddenly in both freezer and fridge side. Pulled out unit and sounds like compressor is running and compressor fan (across coils) is running. Circulation fan in freezer is not running....

First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it seems
to be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

Unit not cooling down, compressor running, condenser fan running. suction line just cool, condenser line barely warm.

Check if evaporator fan is running. Is there any frost buildup on freezers evaporator cover? If so you have a defrost problem (bad heater, defrost thermostat, thermister, defrost timer or circuit board ). If no frost and the freezer is warm then you most likely have a sealed system problem(leak, restriction, bad compressor) which is costly to repair.

Check your compressor area for lint buildup. Is the fan running down there?aa4623f.jpg Is the compressor running? Both should be running when the control is calling for cool and the inside fan is running. Looks for signs of distress associated with the compressor relay.7842c79.jpg4e4f405.jpg If all of that is good. Look for frost buildup on the freezer wall, a sure sign of a defrost problem. Remove the freezer service panel and look for frost buildup. You could have a bad heat or terminator.644d73c.jpg

Freezer door started dripping water when opened and item in freezer are defrosting. Also refrigerator not staying cool. Help

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

In the fresh food compartment center overhead within about 6 inches of the front of the unit there is a circular hole. Inside that hole you will see a dial with 2 tabs on it. Use your thumb or a squared off utensil and rotate the tabbed dial slowly until you hear an audible "CLICK" The refrigerator should stop running and the defrost cycle begins.

After 45 minutes (+ or - 10 mins) the compressor should start again. Once the compressor starts, check both the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment and the condenser fan in the bottom rear of the unit to make sure they are turning at full speed.

If the compressor does NOT after 90 minutes re-start, rotate the defrost timer tabs of the dial in the overhead of the fresh food compartment until you hear it start again. The fact that the compressor did not start in under 90 minutes indicates a defrost circuit problem.

A slow running evaporator fan or condenser fan will cause poor cooling. Also in the back of the unit, check the right side of the condenser coils for lint / hair build up. If it is blocked the front outside chassis of the freezer section will be very warm almost hot to the touch. Clean as needed with a vacuum if you do find any lint buildup.

Once more thing is to check the ice maker. Quickly touch the bottom of the ice maker. If it is VERY hot to the touch then there is a problem with the ice maker itself and the mold heater can cause your freezer to warm up and overall unit performance to degrade.

A complete checkout of the ice maker can be found here: http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

Your parts can be found here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=48360

Scrolling the left side of the page will access all sections of the unit.

Thanks for using FixYa.

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.
