Question about GoVideo DV2140 DVD Player/VCR

Open Question

Go Video DV2140 DVD / VCR Combo. DVDs won't play

DVDs will not load. A short time after inserting a disc, I get the message "This disc will not play. Check the disc". Removing and then reinserting the disc sometimes causes it to play properly. I took the cover off of the playwer to see what was happening, and can see that the disc starts to spin slowly and then stops. It will do this a number of times until it gives up and I get the above message. While this is happening, I can hear a "clicking" sound, but can not see what is causing it. When I can get a disc to play properly it spins up very fast. When I see this fast spin up I know it will play properly. This problem happens with all of my discs. Any suggestions on what may be the problem would be appreciated.

SOURCE: DVD won't recognize the disk message below

Try running a DVD cleaner through it and see what happens. You can get one at Walmart for under $10. If that doesn't do the trick then take it to someone that can open it up to clean it.

SOURCE: 'bad disc' error message comes up every time I

Your optical pickup drive lens is dirty or needs to be replaced.  Run a DVD disc cleaning kit through it and see if that helps.  If not, then you have to open this thing up and clean the lens with a bit of rubbing alcohol and then try.  If that don't work you can either kick it to the curb or replace the optical lens.

The machine keeps stating bad disc, for all dvds. We have the GoVideo DVD VCR combo... we tried playing several different dvds and the machine keeps coming up with "bad disc".

It could just be dirt on the lazer/lens. Try cleaning it with a good brand name lens cleaner for DVD/CD. If that doesn't do the trick there might be damage to the lens, or an electrical fault.

DVD doesn't play any disk anymore. Displays a message: this can't of disc can't be played ... I tried several different types of disks.

Same here! It would say something along the lines of "this type of disc cannot be played. please insert a different disc." it's the appropriate dvd region, i've tried all types of dvds, and it still won't work. the vhs and cd still works, it's just the dvd player that won't.
