I have a Logitech Quickcam STX It works great for video and audio except that at random it has really loud static for a short time (about 30 secconds) It is irregular in length and when it happens but makes the mic unusable. I simply use a seperate mic to get around the problem but would like to resolve the problem. Let me know if you have any ideas. THe other mic works great!

It's not feedback and I don't have any other microphones. It's just a loud blast. I only get it on my vista PC, but not with the same camera on my XP PC.

Normal 0 Two things can cause static.
If you have your speakers turned up to high it will give you feedback causing distortion and static.
Second reason is, if you are using a laptop and have an internal microphone and have added an external microphone between the two it will cause distortion and static because both are active.
Not knowing the configuration of your computer makes it harder to analyze the problem.
So hope this is of some help. Bud

Does that webcam have a USB plug AND an audio jack to plug into your computer? If so, you don't need to plug in the audio jack connected to it, and that should help with the heavy static the other person gets. Then again, unless you have another mic plugged into your computer on a headset or something, you won't be able to send audio because the mic to the webcam would be unplugged.

I hope this helps.

I am new to using a web cam. I purchased the VX6000 and everything is working, however, the people I talk to on it only see static pictures of me (Skype).

I think what they are seeing is the photo you took with your webcam when you set up your account.
Make sure your webcam is is working OK and then check your settings

  1. Start Skype.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Audio Settings.
  4. Select your LifeCam device as the default microphone. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  5. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
  6. Select your LifeCam device as the default Webcam. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Test LifeCam by making a Skype test call.

Try re-setting up your webcam by going to Tools > Options > General > Video Settings.  Also check the cable connections from your webcam to your computer.

Voice static

Go to the audio control panel and check you microphone settings. Make sure that the 10 db isn't checked under the advanced properties. If it isn't on adjust the volume. You should be able to calibrate in the panel while talking through it.
