Question about Portable Televisions

Closed Captioning comes on every time i turn on the tv!

No matter what I try, CC turns on automatically whenever I turn on my tv. I can turn it off with my remote, but the TV doesn't remember that, and just turns the CC back on the next time I turn on the tv. Please, please help. The Closed Caption will not be turned off when I press the mute button. I turn it off with the remote but the captioning returns every time I press the mute button.

This same problem happens to me as well. Every time the TV is turned on the CC is on as well. The remote turns it off, but it is getting annoying that the TV doesn't remember the settings.

Apparently the 2002 Sharp model TV that I purchased has the closed captioning by default if the mute button is engaged. So there is no solution for my particular model, it has been built in this way. The only solution is not to use the mute button and lower the volume instead.

There is a large blank menu on the screen I am not able to remove, any suggestions on how to remove this?

Hi.

From the tv's that I have had to fix, when it puts a big black square or box over the screen like that, it is because somehow the closed caption button has been hit and the caption setting is on text.

There are usually 5 settings for cc,off, cc1, cc2, cctext1, and cctext2
Find the button for your closed caption, and turn cc off.

This should fix your display issue.

I hope this helps you out, and if it does, feel free to give me a top rating!

Thanks !

Hello
Connect the TV to external antenna or cable and do the following ot autoscan channels. If it autoscans, and doesn't store any stations in its memory, the memory IC has damaged and should be replaced with same type and number. Wait till autoscan completes and see whether the first channel receve will comes displayed or not. It will take some time to complete. the procedure is:

From Menu Press Vol [+/-] then Channel [UP/DOWN] buttons to find CHANNEL AUTOSCAN.
Press Volume [+/-] button, channels will be scaned automatically. OK

3. Click in the search bar, and type in your model number and then
type manual.

Look for the closed captioning (CC) menu in the set up and turn CC off.

Black square picture in the middle of the regular picture

Make sure your closed-captioning is set to "off" or to "caption 1" in the setup. You have it set to one of its "text" modes right now, and what's happening is the caption decoder is blanking the screen where the text would go if there was any. You're probably noticing this on some channels but not all - it will only show up when the channel has closed-captioning being broadcast.

The v-chip locking is a separate problem. If you can provide the make and model of TV, I'll see if I can find how to reset the lock code.

Can't turn subtitles off

Hmm... have you tried ontop of the remote where it has "tv" vcr" sat" etc...hit tv first then try the menu?and do you have satelite by any chance? because something similar happened to me when i had my old tv put upstairs and hooked up, the remote for it did not work so i had a universal and the tv was on "video 1" input the whole time and the universal remote didn not convert it back to tv so what i had to do was hook up the reciever to the "video 1" port instead of the "tv" input in the back...i hope you get it cause i know it can be a pain in the A$$

I would begin by checking the fuse for the socket you have this device plugged into. Whenever possible, all accessories should be unplugged and the radio should be turned off before you disconnect the battery. good luck.
