Closed Captioning comes on every time i turn on the tv!
No matter what I try, CC turns on automatically whenever I turn on my tv. I can turn it off with my remote, but the TV doesn't remember that, and just turns the CC back on the next time I turn on the tv. Please, please help.
The Closed Caption will not be turned off when I press the mute button. I turn it off with the remote but the captioning returns every time I press the mute button.
Re: Closed Captioning comes on every time i turn on the...
Apparently the 2002 Sharp model TV that I purchased has the closed captioning by default if the mute button is engaged. So there is no solution for my particular model, it has been built in this way. The only solution is not to use the mute button and lower the volume instead.

There should be an option in the Setup menu for CC (closed captioning) to turn it on and off. If it's already off, you're going to need a new Main board. (You might want to try updating the software first)
When you turn it off are you going into the setup menu to do this?? if so after it comes back on and you go back to the menu and you see it..as "on" You will need to save your settings before you exit out of the menu
What is the source of your TV signal: Cable? Dish Networks? DirectTV? Antenna?
Many times the Cable/Dish Networks/DirectTV controller also has an option for closed captioning. Please verify that a controller is not setup to deliver the CC data.
Also, try setting the TV CC using 'C1' or 'T1' and selecting 'Enter' to accept the change; then come back and set CC to 'Off' again to see if toggling on/off helps.
If Closed Captioning is being displayed even though the CC option in the TV menu is set to Off , then it is being produced by another device, such as a cable or satellite set-top box. To remove the Closed Captioning from the TV screen, it must be disabled on the device that is decoding the Closed Captioned signal.
NOTE: Some set-top boxes may automatically display Closed Captioning on the TV screen when the set-top box sound is muted. If this is the case, turn off the Mute function of the set-top box
U have the tv original remote wright?Yes?Look at the tv remote look for a button that said CC,press that CC buton a couple of times for it to have like CC1,2,3..if the tv program u are watching offer Closed Captioning u will have it.Or tries the tv manual button on the tv bazel frame itself that said Menu.Press the Menu buton go into the tv funsctions look for Closed Captioning funsctions in there look for it and turn it on all like CC1,2,3... all on will also getting Closed Captioning for the tv programmng shows that offer it too.
Tv air broadcasting shows have to say it,to have closed captioning or have to have a white small sign that said CC to be able to get closed captioning ok.Look for it in ur remote there a button that said CC pushes that button go to CC1,2,3..now u will get closed captioning.Or go into ur tv Menu find closed captioning functions turn it on like CC1,2,3...or Text 1,2,3.. on.Now ur tv are ready to get closed captioning, for the tv air broadcasting shows, that have closed captioning.
Usually you can turn on the closed captioning from the remote. There (should) be a button labeled "cc" that you just need to press once or twice until you get the closed captioning style you want. If your remote doesn't have this button, or if you don't have a remote, you could try two things. First, you could try (i'm not sure if this would work) going into the tv menu itself and searching for the closed captioning part, or you could just go out and buy a universal remote that has the "cc" key.
I hope this helps!
Noway to turn off captioning right away without the original remote. But U can unplug the tv for an hour,tv well reset itself back to original setting. The Captioning will shut off buy itself.Because captioning reqiure CC buttion on orignal remote and must manually turn on and off.
I experienced the same problem for about an hour before recognizing that the "continuous on" closed captioning had been activated on my cable box, not the TV. The signal feeds through despite the CC settings on the TV. If you haven't already, try checking the CC settings on whatever device is supplying your video.
