horizontal line is an idication of a bad board known as a x driver board. Their may be a slight possiblitliy it can be a small ribbion cable that runs from the driver board to the plasma panel. Another possiblility it can be a bad panel... but from the symptoms you describe i would first have to look at that driver board. and the sympton that getting worse makes me lean toward a bad ribbion cable.. if that could be reseated....well that the first thing as a technician i would try. Carefull Television generate dangerous voltages.

First thing to do is the reset and the whacking test. I give this a 50/50 chance of clearing it up.
ONE: Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.
TWO: The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.
If these two procedures do nothing then:
The manual always knows the best.Go through the manual carefully and u will find the solution to ur problem..
Goodluck and Kind Regards

Here's a link to order the original the JVC upper Y-buffer board and lower Y-buffer board for this model from a major parts distributor if needed:
JVC "PD-42DX6" Replacement Part Upper Y - Buffer Board (LJ41-02760A)
JVC "PD-42DX6" Replacement Part Lower Y - Buffer Board (LJ41-02761A)
Based on the symptoms: It is possible that the Y-buffers are faulty, which may require the replacement of the Y-sus board as well. You may want to get a local technician to diagnose the unit and provide a second opinion.

What you are experiancing is loss of High voltage. The line is called a retrace line. It is usally caused by failure of the flyback circuit or aging of the TV tube. This is the single most common failure with CRT based display systems. The high voltage can be tweaked up, to accomidate for the age of the tube. Its a short term solution. Because of the high voltage nature of this circuit, suggest a professional repair.
