Samsung screen is not calibrated properly. There is a line on the right side of the screen that I can't get rid of.

Unfortunately the line didn't show up in the video.

1) New LCD screen?
Should have an Installation CD Disk that comes with it. Use it if so.
Has the Drivers on it.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

Don't know which version of the Windows O/S you have.
The device in this case is the LCD monitor.

2) What is the NATIVE screen resolution for the LCD monitor.
Look up the specs on the monitor using it's Model Number on back.

For example I installed an HP 2009M 20-inch widescreen monitor, along with the 26-inch RCA ENV HDTV I use for a monitor.

I had to use the drivers from the disk, but could still not set the native resolution in Display Properties.
There is an alternate resolution to the native one that can be used.
The drivers from the disk made it so.

The 20 inch widescreen is 1600 x 900 (Pixels)
The 26 inch HDTV is set at 1360 x 768 (Pixels)

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
In the Display Properties window click on the Settings tab.

What is the Screen resolution setting? What is it supposed to be?
The Slider on the line is clicked on with the left mouse button, left mouse button held down; then the Slider is slid to the left to decrease screen resolution, or to the right to increase with the mouse.

Color quality should be set to High (32-bit)

1) Installing software (Drivers) from the Installation disk, (Or from the monitor manufacturers support website);
And,
2) Setting the screen resolution;

doesn't help, replace the monitor cable with a known to be good one.

Still no? Your LCD monitor is going out.

Regards,
joecoolvette

If your monitor has a button to activate the OSD (On Screen Display),
just push that button to "exit" from the OSD.

Or, after a minute, press the OSD button, to enter "setup".
You should be able to change the "time" from "about a minute" down to 2 or 3 seconds.

When i turn on my monitor it shows my desktop then shuts off after 10 seconds...never stays on

elainenemeth, Hi, Tell me more! How old is this LCD monitor? Is it out of warranty? Did the "SHUT-DOWN-IMMEDIATE" problem occur without warning? Did the BenQ display a "perfect" image the day before? Did you actually count----1001, 1002----1010 and then it shut down, after pushing the monitor on button. Did you do the "flashlight" test? With monitor connected to a "known-good", fully booted pc with Win Desktop displayed, TURN ON the monitor! Did it display the desktop for 1-2-10 seconds ? What did you see or not see when you pointed the flashlight at different angles about 1-2" inches from the now dark (black) screen? Get back to me with your results. I will offer the best advice possible to you as a consumer/user of LCD/FPD monitor. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com Bye for now.

I have a black border on top of my screen

There are two things which could have caused this. One, the Monitor settings have changed or the computers display settings have changed.

1. Resetting the monitor to default.
Push the 'MENU' button to open the OnScreedDisplay system and display the main features menu. Push the - and + buttons to move between the function icons
Use the buttons to highlight 'Factory Reset' (this returns the settings to the factory preset values for the selected group of functions)
Detailed instruction available at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E153fpb/En/controls.htm

2. Checking the desktop display settings.
Right click on the desktop and select properties, click on settings and make sure screen resolution is set to one of the following 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768. These are the only ones supported by the monitor

If both this fails. Then the monitor is nearing end of life

Frequency problem of LCD monitor

bugcafe: LCD monitors work best when you system is set for the native resolution of the monitor, and at not more than about 75 Hz refresh. For a 15 inch LCD that's 1024 x 768 and for a 17 inch it's 1280 x 1024. In windows you would right click on the desktop, select settings, and select the "display settings" tab. This is where it gets fuzzy for me as I am not Windows user. I believe there will be an advanced button you can select to manually enter the settings. You can also do this in windows "safe mode" which should get you a better screen in which to perform the operation if doing it with the LCD connected. Enter safe mode from a reboot by using the "F8" key.
