Freezing a liquid is kind of a purification process. For example, an iceburg is pure water even though it is frozen from salt water.
The same thing is happening with your ice. Pure water freezes first and leaves behind the ****. The **** and last bits of ice freeze at the bottom of your ice cube tray. You taste the concentrated **** (including chlrorine) on the bottom of the tray. Some regions, the water is from rivers instead of deep wells. The taste there can get real funky or real strong chlorine.
Replace water supply line with the plastic tubing ice maker line. It fixed mine that had a metal braided line on it that made the water taste kie rubber and dirt,, after that I tried a vinyl braided line.and it made the water taste like garden hose water.. The plastic tubing was the cure. Reply and tell me what you have.
The problem can still be in your lines, or in the dispenser itself. If you run hot water with a little bit of vinegar in the lines and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then flush the whole system this should take care of your problem
Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.
Remove filter and use dispenser a lot. Chlorine in water may help clean out system that filter is now removing. Not much else you can do other than replace all the water lines and tank. Thanks, please leave feedback or contact me again for more info if you need it.
You said, Your Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. You
replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and
that didn't help. You replaced the copper tubing again with plastic
tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Your tap water doesn't taste this
bad.You bought a Kenmore french door fridge with water dispenser in the
door in July 2008. The fridge has a filter. A few weeks after the
fridge came the water and ice started tasting really bad, unlike any
bad water taste I have ever tasted. And your tap water is fine. The bad
taste appears to be random. Sometimes you get a cup full of nasty water
and sometimes it tastes fine.
First you must know you have a 1 year warranty and can have them come out to fix anything, no charge. If it persists. You will have to get tough and you , MUST INSIST THEY REPLACE YOUR FRIDGE
When installing the water line these were a part of the directions! Did you do this before connecting the water line to your fridge? "Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the copper tubing."
Whirlpool remedy Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice 1.Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice. 2.Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice away and make a new supply. 3.Does the freezer and ice storage bin need to be cleaned? See “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin.” 4.Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help prevent odor transfer to stored food. 5.Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter may need to be installed to remove the minerals. 6. Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration system needs additional flushing. Run additional water through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to 7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.
