This is a common problem on lots of boats with any brand of electronics. Most likely it is being caused by a bad crimp in a wire connector, or by having too many connectors on a terminal in the power supply bus. Start at the power supply source and ground and replace any butt or terminal connectors with high quality heat shrink connectors (such as Ancor). Make sure that the connector is the right size for the wire.

On Humminbirds the problem could also be in the swivel mount that holds the power and data cables. The cables should be held in place by a metal bracket which is located under a panel held onto the swivel bracket by to small philips head screws. If any of those components are missing, the plug may be loose in the socket which could cause it to disconnect temporarily when the boat hits a wave. While you have it apart check the plug and the socket for corrosion.

I hope this helps. Please contact me if you have any more questions.

The wiring within the Screen unit seems to be very poorly done, there are 4 cables to the GPS side of things and these can contact each other as there is a portion of the wire where it enters the connector that is bare, and if these touch one another then you will get nothing.
Dismantle the head unit and check the cables, i would be inclined to shrink wrap the bare portion of each cable.
Hope that this helps, it might not be the answer, but it is worth checking.

Need a USB cable to connect GPS to computer.

Without knowing the make and model of your GPS system I can't give you a definitive answer, but if you take the GPS system (or the car charger) to an electronics or office-supply store, they should have a cable that fits. Or you can get one of those USB cables that come with a variety of tips to fit the standard USB ports.

Gps antenee not recieving signals

please do check the terminal connector of the gps to the antenna
connector cable there should be is a voltage reading of 5 volt dc on the gps using a multitester.if the answer is no then your gps receiver
is out of order.if 4 volt to almost 5volt that should be
be ok..next step is to check the gps antenna cable connector
to the gps antenna using multitester a for short or open connection.set the tester to x1 and calibrate setting then test
short cable should reading full almost zero on the scale, open has almost
no resistance at all.a good gps antenna will read a difference
of forward and reverse resistance reading i cannot tell u the actual reading
of the antenna because it all depend on the length of the cable
and the gps antenna model.but it usually work if u test it this way
please do take note that u are very sure of your setting on the
gps it self before u make this test.
good luck

Nuvi 255w is not being recognized by my Dell

Hello,

If the computer does not recognize the GPS as another drive, then it is possible that there is a connection problem with the cable or the internal components of the GPS are shot.
Try the cable with a different device such as a digital camera or another GPS. If this works then the cable is fine, if not replace the cable with another one.
It is also possible that the Garmin support staff are correct.
The nuvi 255w is an older discontinued GPS and should probably be replaced with a newer unit.
The normal life span for a GPS is about 3 to 4 years and that is being generous. The battery life of the GPS can only cycle so many times before it becomes completely dead.

Hi!
here's a user manual/installation manual for your sounder:
NS25
If the depth sounder portion works, I would suspect the settings are off (check first) or the gps circuit needs repair.
Best of luck!
Mike
