Question about GE DBSR453EBWW Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer shuts off before the clothes are dry.

It must cool before it will restart. It is a GE DBSR453EB2WW. The problem has been narrowed down to one of the 3 sensors on the element housing. Is the problem the high limit thermostat, the safety thermostat, or the thermal fuse? how do I know which part is bad?

I have the same problem. The shut off exists on air dry also though, meaning it may be a thermal reset on the motor, not the heating element. The solution given by spl268 to check all three sensors immediately after shut off won't work because it takes too long to get the panels off and get at them and the dryer can't be run with them off because all panels need to be in place to suppor the drum. My questions are; which of the three thermal sensors on the heating element will reset and which won't? Which will interrupt the motor as well as the heating element?

When the dryer shuts off immediately check all 3 sensors w/a ohm-meter to see which one is open. That will be the one causing your problem.

GE Dryer DBSR453Eb2WW takes twice as long to dry clothes

A clogged or partially clogged vent will reduce the air flow through the dryer and greatly increase the drying time. I assume you checked the drying time again after you cleaned the vents. Have you also checked that the lint trap is clean? Make sure no lint has found it's way around the lint trap and has jammed the intake.

I would be very suspicious of the 240 v breaker double breaker feeding the dyrer; maybe the dryer is only running on 120 vac instead of the full 240vac. The motor would be getting full power, but the heating element would only be getting half power.

My GE dryer shuts down after running for a wile when I open the door to check if the clothes are dry. It seems to start back up after cooling down for about 20 min. Any answers ?

There is an overheat protection thermostat that could be faulty, but it usually indicates that the exhaust tubing is full of lint and there is inadequate airflow. This can be a fire hazard, so you should regularly "Shop Vac" the lint out of the pipe.

Check motor for lint build up around motor. Will cause motor to overheat and shutdown on motor
overheat switch and will restart after cooling down.

Heats and runs, but not long enough to dry clothes; then would not turn on and run at all. maybe dryer ''thinks'' clothes are dry?

Hi, After the dryer shuts off, can you restart it right away or does it need to cool down before restarting? If it needs to cool down for a bit, the motor is going bad. If the dryer is running a full cycle but not completely dry, check your venting to the outside and make sure it is clean.
If this is a gas dryer, the coils on top the gas valve might be shutting down early and not reopening later in the heat cycle.
I hope this gives you some direction. Please let me knwo if I can assist you further on this problem

My dryer used to shut off before the clothes are dry - now it wont start at all

Ok, the light will not come on if the door pressure swicth is damaged and, the dryer will not start if this switch is damaged as well. replace the door pressure switch asap.

Ok, concerning the interuppted drying cycle due to high heat, this can be cuased by two issue. It coudl be a venalation issue. if the dryers vent duct and exuast hoses are clogged, thsi will cuased the element to reach unsafe tempreturs, in return, tripping the high limit thermostsat and shutting the dryer off in the middle of the load cycle.

Another problme spot woul dbe a fualty high limit thermaostae. Although this is highly unlikey, this coudl be your issue.

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

Maytag LDG 712 shuts off before clothes are dry.

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

My DBSR453EBww dryer shuts off before the clothes are dry.

Possibly the motor is overheating due to lack of ventilation, or the lint filter requires cleaning, make sure the outlet is clear at the rear of dryer, and that the vent hose (if fitted) is not kinked.
You could also have a problem with the motor itself which is causing it to overheat and the cutout is stopping the motor from working until it cools down enough to start again.

Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.
