i dont own a psp but if its anythign like using the DS mp3 player if the bitrate of the song is greater than arround cd quality then it might be too much for the machine to handle and it wil freeze up, or this could be if the file type is not supported maybe?

If your running the beta firmware that sony released on accident you need to upgrade to the newest firmware that should fix your problem hopefully

you can try this program in your psp
its kind of like the music player but better
fist download it and put the folder on the game folder on your psp then go to games in the xmb menu and try it out the link to downlad it is this:
