Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a Cannon Powershot SD600, just got it recently and it worked great, then all of a sudden I noticed the cover lens's that slide over to protect the lens when you shut it off were messed up. Onle 1 was showing. I tried turning it on, and all it says now is, "Lens error, please restart camera." I tried the Hold Menu down for 5 seconds, but that did nothing since it doesn't even turn on.

The Canon series are fine camera's, but they seem to suffer from lens errors (check how many people suffered from this by googling lens error canon).
The problem seems to come from sand/dust entering the body and jamming the lens gear. A handy person may be able to fix it, but I think Canon should have designed an enclosed lens gear so sand/dust can not enter.

Camera's are commonly carried in pockets, so it is logical sand and dust can be expected.

There are some issues with getting perfect focus in some situations.

Lens error on cannon powershot sd600. When I turn it on it gives me a "lens error, restart camera" and it turns off.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

My canon powershot sd600 says card locked. Why did this happen and how do i unlock it

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Hi Dear,

As we can see from your description of your problem. The issue is related to misalignment of the lens. As the lens is stuck it will not come in and out smoothly. And also as you have said the camera lens is broken. Hence, the best place would be go to the authorized Cannon service station. they will changer you a little bit higher than the other(road side) service station. But it will be done by the hands of experts.

Hence please take it to Cannon Service station only. They will fix it up perfectly.

If you have more queries on this. Please do write to us on the same. We will be obliged to solve your issues.

Have nice day.

Lens will not deploy or retract correctly

while switching it on, try to tap it very gently, little bit force should be applied to reset the gears, do this several times till you are sure its working, other options are to take it to a qualified tech for reseting the gears, but tapping it, while holding it on right hand, and tapping it on left hand should make it work...check out

Help please

I'm assuming you have a lens error which is giving you the restart message.
It is kind of misleading, but to restart the camera means to power cycle the camera or remove and reinsert the battery.
If you do have a lens error, if restarting the camera doesn't work, you'll need to get the lens fixed if to remove the error.
