Question about Samsung LE-46A566 46 in. LCD TV
When watching, the backlight simply switched off. Sound was still on, and also the LCD was working (just hard to see without backlight). I switched the TV off and on again, the backlight was working again for 10sec, then it switched off again. I switched the TV off and on again, the backlight was working again for 3sec, then it switched off again. Now the abcklight remains off. I checked the inside of the TV, but could not find anything which looks broken etc. Can share some pictures if helpful. Does anyone have an advice reg. what exactly is broken? Many thanks in advance!
Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

SOURCE: Broken Mirror
you need to see if the lens where the light comes out is scratched..
if it is then the picture will never be right until you replace it..as for a cheap replacement mirror the picture might be watchable if it is a good quality mirror

This looks as if a component has become thermally sensitive. The best way to find this is to use component cooling spray. It looks as if the problem is localized to the tuner section. Take the back off of the TV and turn the TV on, wait until the problem occurs and lightly spray the tuner section with the component cooling spray watch for any reaction, then if this does not work spray the Microprocessor and the LVDS section and watch for a reaction. The set should go back to normal when it does that section is the problem, try to localize the problem to one component. Then replace that component.
I hope this helps,

You need to do some more diagnosing of the problem. If you get sound and change channels take a bright flashlight and place it again the screen. Look for an image around the edge of the flashlight.
If you see an image that means the LCD controller board (TCON) is probably good.
The problem is probably one of three causes;
1) Inverter board is bad
2) CCFT (cold cathode fluorescent light) are bad.
3) Power to the inverter board is bad. You can also check the connectors.

Check with Samsung, this model should still be under the 3 year warranty. You are having a problem with the backlight power supply. You can look on the back of the unit for the manuf. date, if its less than 3 years then go to www.samsung.com and process the online service request form.
I hope this helps,if so please rate our solution.

Testimonial: "Your suggestion sounds about right to me, though I'm no expert. I do have experience with bad caps in other equipment and am comfortable around circuit boards and soldering, etc., so I'll have a go at it. Might these be low-esr caps? Once again, thank you."
