I have a leak in fluid and want to check level, is there a solution without taking it in for service at home.
how can I check level and add some fluid?
What fluid did you want to check? oil, coolant, transmission, brake? let me know and maybe i can help. the leak you currently see what color is the fluid? black or dark brown probably enigne oil. red or dark brown probably some kind of hydraulic fluid--trans or brake, yellow, green or blue with a sickly sweet smell is probably coolant. i haven't worked on a c230 but as far as i know all transmissions have a dipstick where you can check the level. check your owner's manual. make sure the car is warmed up such as after a short drive to properly circulate and check the trans fluid. some cars also require the transmission to be placed in a specific position ie neutral when being checked. again check your owners manual.
to the guy that was critical about your question, i hope he stays as dumb and ignorant about his/her car as he seems as with his/her attitude--just keep bringing it to servcie, that way i can keep making a lot of money out of you. i actually prefer an owner who knows a litlte some thing about their car and how it works--it makes the job easier in communicating to me what may be wrong and thus i can save them time and money. we both win. just don't tell me what you think it is--just tell me the symptoms are, as a professional it's my job to figure it out from there. hope this helps.
Take it to the dealer if you really care ****! you have to pay for it!!! thats the way it is! why did u purchase a car like that if you dont want to pay for the service!!
The pilot bushing may be cause of fluid leak, get service at dealership.
your out of luck, most cars with auto transmissions do have a dip stick but not the c230's. I have one and it's at the dealer right now. they claimed tranny oil level checks are not necessary but are now telling me I need to spend $8000 on a new transmission and radiator because water got into the tranny through the radiator. piece of junk would never buy a merc again. this one only has 115 k miles on it now.
I took my 1998 c230 to the dealer for check engine light in 2009. The dealer gave me an estimate of $8000.00 to fix the problem. They told me the car worth $5000.00. I refused to get repaired and paid their estimate fee of $600. The dealer was so greedy. I got most of the repairs done and paid not more than $1000.00.For the transmission leak(contamination on the dealer's test) I could add Transmission lightning fluid for $20 and its good now. Motor mounts replacement was $700 at the Dealer, Thanks to YouTube and other Internet vendors, I was able to order a floor jack and jackstands All Aluminum for $50.And the motor mounts cost was $120. I change the both brake pads Front and Rear for less than $80 Where as any Mechanic wanted $500 for the job. I happened to change the Engine valve cover gasket for $50. Where is the comparison for $300 at the shop. I had this repairs done for two years and still going good, that means Some thing is right.I am saving money by staying away from mechanics and dealers. Have a nice day Pompano Mercedes Benz Dealer.

Your car has a sealed transmission.
You have to have a special dipstick only for testing and new locking clips to seal after. This transmission is extremely sensitive to type of fluid (expensive) and fluid level. To Check you have to be level with transmission at specific temp. If you have an advanced code reader and other parts good otherwise go to a shop do it wrong and it will cost you an expensive transmission in no time at all
