I replaced the belt but as soon as I start the vacuum I smell burning and the belt is broken?

The brush roller is clogged with debris and unable to rotate. Because of this, the new belt was unable to move and the motor shaft spun in one place until it burned through. The brush roller has to be removed and disassembled to allow the end caps to be cleaned inside.

How can I remove the roller brush to clean it?

While not removing rollers, my method of cleaning them involves regular attention to prevent build up. Sometimes long hair or threads get wound so thickly & tightly the roller gets stuck & won't turn. If I can't unwind enough by pulling a few threads at a time, I'll cut a bit & pull it away a bit at a time until the mess pulls free. This is especially tedious if it gets caught at the edges in the rotation mechanism. That can be one piece of thread at a time, tugging gently & cutting away the jam until you can free it. As for the brushes themselves, sometimes a wide toothed comb will clear clumps of pet fur & rug lint from each strip of brush on the rollers, making it easier to see & remove long, wound tightly tangles.

How do I remove roller brush from Shark cordless handheld vacuum?

You have to remove All the screws, and you are correct they are almost impossible, after that most of the part's also snap together, so you almost have to break it to take apart, a vacuum repair shop knows all the tricks to opening these up....

Removing roller

Tony, Sorry but I have absolutely NO experience on that model Hoover. I don't have the room for a special bench to allow for all the drainage that frequently happens when they are tipped upside down for servicing on the bottom parts. I've never had one in the shop. Good luck finding someone else. Corky

Brushes not rotating

If your unindentified vacuum cleaner is an upright, the belt may be stretched and unable to rotate the roller brush. The roller brush ends could be clogged with debris, preventing it from rotating freely. The solution is to disconnect your vacuum cleaner from the power and turn it upside down for inspection. It may be necessary to remove the roller brush and remove the end caps to clean inside. Replace any worn parts

Beater bar not turning

The number one cause of the "beater bar" (or brush roller) not rotating is a broken belt.

The number two cause of brushes not rotating is that something is jammed & wound around the roller, preventing it from rotating.

For the belt: If you remove the screws holding the bottom plate, you should see one (or maybe two) short, wide rubber belt(s) that goes around the roller.

If this is broken, it's easy to replace. They do break because of age and wear. One of the leading causes of breakage is when the roller gets something - a curtain cord, for example - wrapped around it. If you don't immediately shut off the vacuum & remove the cord, the belt will continue to try to turn the roller (which can't turn), and this generates a lot of heat in just a few seconds.

You can find belts at places like Sears, Home Depot, or your local vacuum shop.

For just the roller: Turn the vacuum over on its side and inspect the roller. Will it turn? Can you see something wound around it that's jamming it? While you here, take a minute and clean the roller... including using scissors or a knife to snip & remove wound hairs & threads. A clean and healthy roller will help to keep your belt happy!

Our brush doesn't rotate anymore on our U5402-900 vacuum cleaner. What are common causes of this?

The number one cause of brushes not rotating is a broken belt. If you remove the four screws holding the bottom plate, you'll see a short, wide rubber belt that goes around the roller.

The number two cause of brushes not rotating is, as suggested above, something jammed & wound around the roller. It's always a good idea to turn the vacuum over periodically and clean the roller... including using scissors or a knife to snip & remove wound hairs & threads. A clean and healthy roller will help to keep your belt happy!

Its the widepath bagged tempo, i need to change the belt but do not know how. How do i change the belt

remove 4 screws fromthe bottom of the vac. this will allow you to remobe the baseplate and expose the belt & roller. put the new belt on the roller first and then pull it to the motor shaft. Note: remove the roller and the housing under it to clean out any debris buildup. re-install baseplate and screws.

Replace the roller on my Kirby Vacuum Generation 3
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In order to replace the brushroll on the Kirby G3 you need to dial off the belt and then release the lever to remove the bell housing, then there are 2 levers that you need to open then you can get @ the brushroll --- take out the brushroll and replace the brushroll and a new belt – make sure you change the belt every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning. Make sure when you put the new belt in the housing that the screw heads are facing down – then you can replace the bottom plate, dial the belt on to the belt pulley and replace the bell housing. If you need further help please refer to a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
