The Clip Light and Static ?

I don't know what make & model of microphone or clip light you're using, but try unplugging the microphone cable from the preamp. That will tell you if the problem is in the microphone or the preamp/amplifier.

If you still get noise with microphone unplugged, try checking the power supply. You'll probably hear any hum from power supply. Make sure you're using one that's recommended or sold by the manufacturer.

Finally, try replacing the output cable. Any open circuits in the output cable could cause hum & noise.

That's all I can think of right now. Good luck.

Mic receives a lot of static and then cuts out. After a few seconds it seems to repeat.

This could be due to interference from other devices.
You could try changing to a different frequency (there are 20 to choose from).
Also move the receiver away from any strong electro magnetic fields (hearing loop amplifiers, CD/DVD players, TVs) or large pieces of metal and in clear line of sight of the transmitter pack.
Set up the aerials so that they are at a similar angle as the aerial on the transmitter.
Only use xlr balanced cables with good quality screening to connect the receiver to the mixer / amplifier. Keep signal cables well away form mains electricity cables as far as possible.
Wherever possible use balanced xlr cables on all other equipment.

When i transmit if the other vehicle is anything over a mile away they get a lot of static. I can receive them clearly at up to 5 miles. What do I do to get better transmission? I have a K40 antenna...

Well if they are not hearing you over a mile but you hear them over 5 miles that is a good indicator that your antenna is working properly but your radio is not getting out there. First go ahead and check the TX knob. Turn it all the way to the right so you modulate as much as the radio will allow. Next turn the squelch knob all the way to the left until you hear static and then turn it to the right slowly until the static noise goes away. Some don't mind the continual static but I like to squelch it out. The TX being turned to the right will allow your radio to work at full capacity. If you still don't get reports much over a mile then you can try a power mike to help you out a bit. Your microphone could have seen it's better days and can for sure mess up your transmit. Make sure your SWR is low 1:1.5 is the goal not to exceed 2. If all that checks out then have it peeked /tuned and aligned by a tech. Good luck to you.

I have a gxl 2200 mic and my computer acknowledges the mic but i cant record anything because when i play it back there is no sound

You'll need a phantom power source, like an interface or mixer. Otherwise, the mic is likely in need of repair.

Static problem

Try using a headset or lower the volume.
Normal 0 Two things can cause static.
First, If you have your speakers turned up to high it will give you feedback causing distortion and static. I recommend using a headset when videoing.
Second reason is, if you are using a laptop and have added an external microphone between the two it will cause distortion and static.
Not knowing the configuration of your computer makes it harder to analyze the problem.
So hope this is of some help. Bud
