The issue is that the hardware driver for the USB is causing your system to crash. Try finding an update from Trendware- however your best bet is if you have a desktop, purchase a network card that goes internal, and if laptop- use an express card. USB network adapters historically have been *VERY* unstable- and the issues with your system definitely point at the driver for the adapter.
You will want to check in your device manager to see if the network card is not being recognized and you will be able to update the driver there.
For windows XP, rght click on my computer, select properties and then select "ahrdware" and device manager.
For windows VIsta and 7, go to your control panel and open Device manager there.
Once open, you should see a network adapter with a yellow question mark or yellow exclamation mark beside it.
In either case, make sure the driver disk is in your disk drive, right click on the network adapter and select "update driver"; then just select the "recommended" options and follow through.
If this still doesn't work, try uninstalling the device from the device manager and then install the drivers using the disk.
Windows OS will only recognized a very limited number of Plug-and-Play Wifi Adapter (USB or PCI or PCMCIA or PC-CARD).
You normally need to load the 'driver' that came with your adapter Installation CD or Diskette before the Adapter can be recognized, configured and used.
There should not be any problem with you buying your own PCI ethernet card and install it yourself. They are not that expensive. www.newegg.com has on for only $7.99 and it will work fine in your computer. It does not need to be from Dell.
I think your best bet would be to disable the network adapter in "Device Manager". Install the driver that you want to use, then restart the PC and see if it sets it up with the driver you want. I don't know if "Vista" has the "Driver Rollback" feature, but if it does you may can try that also. I'm thinking the reason error messages occur when you're trying to uninstall that driver is because it's in use and needs to first be disabled. I'm not too familiar with Vista cause I've heard many bad things about it and didn't want to chance it, so unfortunately I can only give you my best guess ... hope this helps
When I restart my computer I get a found new hardware message. Asking
to download the driver for the 2Wire USB Remote NDIS Ethernet, or put
in the installation disc. Do not have the disc anymore please help me
to find the driver I need. I have 1000HW 2Wire modem. It seems that until I make this change, I cannot properly sync my Palm Pilot. Could that be true?
This means that your license has run out. The internet talking kit was not free it had a temporary license and it expired, when you try to reload it, it does not work because a file has been added to your computer that prevents it from working without a vaild license.
Now you have some options, use VMware create a virtual machine that shares this hardware without loading the program, ghost the VMware machine and then save this image. Load the USB drivers and the program, use for 3-4 months until the license runs out. when the license runs out use reimage the VMware machine with the ghost image and reload the usb driver and the talking kit program. Yes its a lot of work, or you can just buy the license load it and as they say keep on getting up.
