Question about Gateway 200STM Notebook
I need a service manual for a Gateway 200STM to find out how to replace the hard drive. Can only find an operation manual, but nothing with instructions for replacing the hard drive. I am an IT guy, but do not want to begin this project without the service manual in hand.
Pat... All I can find in the way of repair/service manuals Run about $20.00. I keep hoping for "free", but so far, no joy.
Best (cheapest) is here: http://www.servicemanuals.net/

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Depends - what gateway? the one you listed under?? Because the model you posted with already came with a DVD drive.
Reply with the model of your machine and i can probably find you help. Gateway usually has instructions on their site.
The instructions for the M305CRV are here.
That model can use pretty much any standard laptop CD if you dont mind the face not matching get a generic drive like the Sony CRX880a at

with the laptop upside down there will be a hard drive cover. On most Gateway machines, labels and stickers are often placed on the hard drive panel.
Remove the two screws. MAKE SURE you keep these screws in a safe place
Slide the enclosure out of the laptop.BE CAREFUL and slow as to NOT damage the drive.
Turn the enclosure over. The drive will be screwed to the enclosure. NOTE as This is actually an anti-static container, so again be careful when removing, to avoid static
Remove the screws to actually remove the drive. keep these screws as may be needed for the replacement hard drive
