Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
"you only need to do the following"
if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

The Optical Disc does not recognize the Disc, that is, the Optical Disc does not rotate, but it receives power. I tried to run a disc under BIOS setup screen and the same happened

The best bet is to get an external DVD drive from Wal Mart for about $30 or more and forget the hassle. The cost to replace the internal drive is more than it is worth.

Acer aspire 5740 DVD not recognized

Make sure it has power (ejects). Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

It most likely can only boot from the optical drive then the hard drive. If your disc isn't being recognized at boot up maybe the drive eye needs cleaning or the optical disc is bad. Also the optical drive may need replacing.

The cd drive won't recognize that there is a disc in place.

Try cleaning the optical drive lens with alcohol.Try deleting the CD/DVD drive entry from the device manager and let Windows re-detect the optical drive on startup. It will reinstall the driver. If none of these helps, probably you’ll have to replace the drive.

Dvd drive is not dittecting any disks

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM! this is how i solved it in minutes. Using Progresso ( not Campbells, this will render the machine inoperable) simply dump the chicken soup into the drive tray. let it filter out the bottom, but be careful not to get any into the machine itself. THEN VOILA!

Optical drive broken

It probably needs a new laser because the old one is "burnt out". It's a really common problem with them.

You could replace the laser or the entire Bluray drive.

You can buy these online at may online stores or eBay.

No disc error video and audio cd works only dvd gets nodisc error

Hi there,

Did you try to test it and play another using another disc?

You may try to clean the optical lens of the unit using a optical disc cleaner available on any electronic shop, it seems that the drive lens is dirty and can't recognize the disc inserted.

Hope this helps.

Optical disc drive malfunction

The optical drive checks the TOC (Table Of Contents) when you insert a disk. If it can't read it, (for any reason), it will eject the disk. This may be due to a dirty laser, or that the laser has failed.
Try using a laser cleaning disk, (these are available from most high street retailers0. If that does'nt cure the problem you will have to get the drive replaced.
