Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

Broken lightbulb won't come out of refrigerator socket

Bulb shattered, leaving pieces around rim. I tried the potato method, it just cut through the potato instead of grabbing it. I then broke off all the remaining pieces of glass, leaving just the rim. Potato still just turned without grabbing on. I then tried the next method of prying the base away enough to get needlenose pliers a grip. Piece of base came off with pliers. Tried on another spot but I cannot get the base to move in any direction ( I know it should go counter-clockwise to come out).

Thanks, I'll try it. Hope the epoxy dries since it is inside the fridge.

I had a similar problem with a kitchen bulb a few years ago. I had to put some epoxy in the socket, stuffed a rag in there, then bent the rims inside like a star with a needle nosed plier. I let it dry then it twisted right out. Hope this works for you!

The freezer light doesn't come on but we tested the bulb elsewhere and it works.

Moisture can contribute to a bit of rusting at the point where contact is made between bulb and socket. Unplug fridge. Use a small piece of fine-grit sandpaper on the socket where the bulb will connect and then spray a tiny amount of WD40 to the socket. Let it dry for a few minutes. Replug your fridge and screw in the bulb. This works for fridge lights too and I've noticed whenever I have something like a cut melon in the fridge which causes condensation then my bulbs will go out and I have to do this sand and spray thing.

Hi! What can be a problem if the new good bulb is not working??

if you know it is a good bulb, unplug the refridgerator. remove the bulb from the socket. in the bottom of the socket, there is a brass tab. it contacts the solder tip on the end of the bulb. sometimes when you change brands of lightbulbs, the new bulb will be just a bit shorter than the previous one. you will need to pull that tab in the socket up just a bit, so it will contact the tip of the bulb. you can sometimes get your finger in there, or you may need to use a dental pick with a 90 degree tip. i did say to unplug the fridge first right? dont break it, just bend it up a little bit.

My lightbulb in my fridge won't go on

Check the tab in the center of he bulb socket. Unplug the frig first and gently pull it up a little. You should be using a 40 watt appliance bulb not a 60. If the tab is not the problem you may need a new switch.

The light bulb in top of refrigerator broke, can't get it unscrewed using potato method. also tried to bend the base with a screwdriver then turn using needlenose pliers. It won't budge. What else can I...

This is where you are going to have to get ruff. Be sure the refigerator is UNPLUGGED. Grab one side of the base of the bulb with your pliers and rotate counter clockwise. Only way to get it out. Short of taking the whole light bulb assy out of the unit. More then likely got a little rust on the base of bulb and just enough to make it stick. Once it breaks loose you are home free. ken

As I mentioned previously, I had previously tried a new bulb behind the control panel and it didn't work. I tried again, but first I unplugged the refrigerator, and then installed the new bulb. And when I plugged the refrigerator back in, the light worked!

I am not sure why unplugging the refrigerator before installing the new bulb worked, but it did.

How do I get a stuck light bulb out of the refrigerator?

Simple, use a hair dryer (on high heat) on the base of the bulb for a few seconds. The bulb will come out easy. Cold expands and is what made it stick. This has worked every time for me.
