Question about Sram Red
The front derailer on the chain set running a compact 34 50 just dont chang well at all. it is just like a low end groupo. I have been to four bike mech and they have told me to change the front mech to a dura-ace 7900. Is this true, will it solve the problem? please help. Thank you.
If you are using red group set you need yaw front mech. Also check your cable as when you are shifting poorly it is often the runner under bottom bracket that has a worn or damaged channel.

Which brand of shifters are you using? A SRAM derailleur won't work with Shimano shifters and vice-versa.
So - first; if you are using SRAM shifters with the Red derailleur - then changing to Shimano will not solve your issue but only make it worse.
If however you have Shimano shifters - then this is a good solution.
The Red derailleur should not shift that poorly with SRAM shifters. It is not the best - but it's not bad. If I had the bike in a repair stand I would be looking carefully at the following after affirming that the shifting system was indeed all SRAM:
Hope this helps... Let me know if you need more.

To use Sram Red Shifters with such a wide range rear cassette requires a Sram 10-speed MTB rear derailleur such as an XX or X.0, it will work without problems with your red shifter.
Because it is a road bike, i suggest leaving the road crankset and front derailleur in place. If you need low gearing I suggest a compact front crankset.
If you need to use a mtb crankset, attept to use the road front derailluer with it.

I'd revisit the adjustments first before spending that kind of money. It sounds like cables have stretched and simply need to be readjusted, which may be normal.
Ask yourself this... Why would the left shifter have anything to do with this and how do you know you'd get an 'improved' set on a new purchase?
Maybe look on eBay periodically for a deal or a stray right shifter.
Aren't boutique parts fun?

SOURCE: I have a 2 x
I have a similar problem on a bike I built. I suspect my issue will be solved whenever I get around to getting a shorter bottom bracket. Is this a new build?
