Hi,
A this is a canister style vacuum, Take the hose off completely and check the main unit is sucking correctly.
If it is, then stretch the hose out (maybe with a helper) and see if it blocked. You can usually clear it with a broom or mop handle if it is blocked.
If the blockage is at the power head (which is more likely), take it to an area of good light, and have a look for anything in the centre area - from underneath and from the hose side of things.
It's usually just a case of fishing things out, but sometimes you need scissors for hair or long threads.
Check everything moves by hand before reassembly.

This should solve matters. Thank you for using Fixya.

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

I put a new belt on my vacuum and right away it broke

There may be a problem with the brush roller itself. When the belt is removed and you have the brush in your hand, make sure that you can turn it.

If the brush turns fine, what I suggest is put another belt on, and before you close it up, turn the brush with your fingers. The brush should turn. If not, and I have done this myself before too, the belt may have been caught under the brush and not able to turn at that point.

When you get it closed up again too, before plugging it in, give the brush another turn. Just make sure that it is not pinched by the lower housing too.

Good Luck,
Mark

The brush on the bottom of the vacuum won't turn when in position to vacuum. I have cleaned the brush, there is nothing tangled around it.

Sounds like the belt is broke, when you remove the brush, be sure that all teeth are still on the belt and that it is not streched. Typically every major retailer will sell these belts usually 2 to a pack and under $10

Ive changed the filter and checked the hoses but vacuum doesnt pick up ...when its on the dust is being blown out the bottom of the vacuum....i took the canister off to test the suction its fine...also...

have you check the roller brush and drive belt? It may be your belt has broke or is slipping and therefore not turning the brush.
Turn on machine and power head see if brush is turning if it is put a small amount of pressure on the roller. If it stops turning replace the belt

Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum brush stopped working. The hose attachment works fine, just the brush on bottom. Without taking it completely apart, it shows no sign of blockage. Any suggestions? Or, will I...

You will have to remove the bottom plate to get at the brush. The drive belt either slipped off or broke, this will have to be replaced.

My enviro vac is being stubborn

First , spin the brush roll by hand and see if it spins freely. Then remove it.
CLEAN OUT ANY HAIR OR THREAD UNDER THE CAPS Inspect the end caps , if one is melted you will need to replace the cap if available or the entire brush roll assembly.
The "metal piece" is the motor shaft. Clean any burned rubber of with fine wet dry sand paper, then install a fresh belt, using the brush for leverage to stretch the belt into place. Rotate the brush again to be sure it is not binding and that the belt is not pinched anywhere.
Buy 2 belts and keep your spare inside the hood of the vac.

look on the underside where the brush roller is and unplug it first then try to turn the brush roller by hand,if it turns real freely the belt is broke.you might have a clog at your intake hose at the bottom its the clear looking hose that goes from the bottom and comes up the back.if the belt is broke before you put a new one on clean the motor shaft there might be some old belt rubber on it ,otherwise the new belt won't last
