Question about Yamaha HTR-5730 Receiver

1 Answer

Yamaha HTR-5230 will not power on

This unit has been in storage for a while and when i plugged it in and tried to power it up, it turns on for a second and then the relay trips to turn it back off. I took the cover off and blew it out thinking that dust or something may be shorting a board out but it's still doing the same thing.

Htr-3064 reset power on

I had a Power surge in Brisbane this week and found my YAMAHA HTR-3064 AV receiver unresponsive. Thanks to the Squish22's post, I tried the above approach, which is also listed for another Yamaha model (RX-V667) Unfortunately nothing happened. Another post suggested holding the 'straight' button as you power up to go into "advanced" menu (under DILLIGAF's post.) This also did not work.
I thought I'd try pressing all 3 buttons and powering up, which worked a treat. so here's exactly what I did:

Yamaha HTR-3064 - Protection mode reset:
  1. Remove the Power cord form mains power and wait 10 seconds.
  2. Plug cord in and turn on wall socket power.
  3. While holding down "info", "straight" and "tone control" buttons, press "main zone" power button. I got a click and it was good to go from there.
I had all of my speakers unplugged at the time and tested off the headphone jack before plugging all the cables back in again. Not sure if I needed to unplug everything, but I was about to dismantle and look for a fuse when I tried this method.
Saved me a new system / service fee. Hope it helps you too.
Thanks Squish22 and DILLIGAF for the head-start!

Location of fuse in yamaha htr 5840 receiver

This is old, but unplug the unit, remove the cover and check the vertical power board where the plug wire enters. There are two fuses on this board, both are 8A125V. These are the only fuses in the unit.

I have a Yamaha HTR 6230, bought in US ( 120V 60Hz). I want to use it in India ( 230V 60 Hz). How can I do that?

Buy a transformer that is compatible with local electrical connectors and supports the wattage it draws.

People take electrical products between the 2 main voltages all the time.

Yamaha HTR-5230 5.1 Channels Receiver turns off as soon as you turn it on, it does this with or without anything connected to it

To be able to isolate the problem, you gonna need to disconnect the power amp output transistor(pair) one at a time. :)

Yamaha rx v396

See page 9 for self test diagnostics. During power up there are checks primarily for the power supplies. If the conditions are not within specifications it will shut down, the second click to protect itself.

Power resistors in the power supplies perform as fuses and are known to fail.(they operate near there limits and from stress thermal cycles fail) These resistors need to be replaced with identical parts as they are part of the safety features of the amplifier.

Failed solder connection the result of thermal cycling are another common defect and are easily repaired.

Complete service manual in the link. If you are not technical provide the manual with the unit to a qualified technician for repair.

Hope this helps?

Check the speker wires could be shorting out to the cabinet. If you still have the problem remove one speaker at a time.

Probably a bad speaker or wires.
