Question about Kenmore 30 in. 42474 / 42475 / 42479 Electric Cooktop

Open Question

Kenmore Electric Cooktop short?

I have a 30 inch coil type cooktop, and it keeps blowing the fuses in the panel. There may have been water damage, leaked inside the water pan, as of now when i replace the fuses, with all knobs OFF on cooktop, it still pops instantaneously with a loud "pop" from the cooktop. I'm suspecting one of the knob switches, but how can i tell?

No recalls that I know of.  The switch for that burner has shorted and will need to be replaced.  It will be fine once it is repaired.

i just checked repairclinic.com and they seem to have a lot of parts for Thermador. you just need your model number. if the burners look anything like this, then you might be able to buy aftermarket burners a lot cheaper at lowes or home depot. thermadore parts are very expensive.38e8186.jpg

SOURCE: Cleaning glass cooktop

Hi, Any good glass/ceramic cooktop cleaner will do the job. Any grease spots or burned food spots can be scraped off with a razor scraper ( just keep it flat ) Use a couple of paper towels and put a dime sized drop of the cleaner on each burner and with a circular motion buff the top like you would wax a car, when cleaned up, flip the towels over and buff to a shine. I don't endorse any products but there are some that contain everything you need, cleaner , scraper, cloth like Ceramabrite. They can be found at most grocery, diy and some hardware stores. Good Luck!

Cooktop short circuits the electrical fuse when plugged in

Try removing parts or connections until the fuse does not blow.

With a gas hob, you are limited to a short in the ignition system.

As the igniter has failed try removing it. This should solve the fuse problem, if it doesn't, look for a short in the wiring.

GE JCP 930 Cooktop Wiring

These fuses are under counter? It should be wired to breaker box. Check specs in manual but i suspect a 30 or 40 amp breaker.
