The ignition unit can fail at any time, before replacing try removing the top cover and pulling the plug leed away from the cylinder, i have seen the leed wear against the cylinder and short out, also check the wires that go down to the unit, these can also short out, it is not a simple task to change the ignition unit, you need to have all the from end off the machine to get to it

SOURCE: 323L Husqvarna trimmer

This sounds like the carb needs to be adjusted like it is letting to much fuel into the cylinder. There is supposed to be fuel and air mixture in the cylinder to make it fire. If there is to much fuel what will happen is that it will just build up in there and the air wont get hot enough as it compresses to start the engine.

Buy a new Homelite you can get one for under a hundred dollars at home depo. This will help out and the parts for yours to fix would be about the same. Sounds like there is a problem with power, could be the cable drive is malfunctioning.http://www.homelite.com/

Trouble shooting no spark

If it's an EFI vehicle check the coil pack output. Some vehicles you can sway the coils around to see if it's bad. Your wires may be bad or the boot and spring if it's coil on plug. Check the sensors related to the firing system crank cam etc. See if there is wiring damage anywhere

I have no fire...checked all the basic options...

Hi, Leisha and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

No fire to plugs on 1991 ford aerostar 4.o replaced crank sensor, coil pack and switch what else is there

If the engine cranks but has no spark, you need to know if the coil is getting voltage and a ground signal. The coil gets power from the ASD relay and a fuse.
Have you checked the compuer for trouble codes ?

Briggs and stratton 24 HP model ELS 725 mower stopped running have power, turns over, does not fire. please explain your answer with instructions for ELECTRICAL (IGNITION) SHUTDOWN,CHECK WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN...

A great expedient spark tester can be made from an old spark plug that you know is GOOD.....clip or grind the grounding terminal ( the terminal which goes over the top of the electrode) back until you have a gap of 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch between the terminal and the electrode...Remove both plugs from the machine and attach your new test plug to the plug wire. Ground the plug by placing it on the head or the shroud. Turn the machine over. If you are getting fire you should see a strong blue spark shoot from the electrode to the terminal. If you have no fire then you probably have a bad ignition coil, bad plug wire, or maybe just a bad seat, brake, or PTO safety switch...I'd check these first. Also check your ignition switch in the run position with a test light to be sure it is good....hope this helps... ;-D

Husqvarna 235 not an e model, Will not start, no spark to plug.

Hello David; We are prohibited from contacting you directly. It sounds as though the ignition module is defective but it could also be a defective switch or interconnecting wire, try this please, it tests the entire system.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

Starting problem

It is most likely the distributer or an internal part of the distributer. It may also be the coil pack since it went so suddenly. I believe your local auto parts store can test the coil pack and it should be easy to remove. Good luck hope I gave you a good starting point for your trouble shoot.

I would bet it is one of the two coil packs, the modules rarley go bad.to make certain you can take the two coils off and switch their locations
just make sure you put the spark plug wires back on the coils as if you did not switch the coils. there are two small bolts holding each coil on. PLEASE rate my answer because I am new on here. chrisdaddyp@aol.com

No fire

Two possibilities left.
You have a short in your stop circuit or bent/out of place component. To check this unhook the small wire on the coil and tuck it out of the way. Put your recoil back on and try to start it. If it starts you need to follow the wire and look for any exposed wire. No exposed wire then you need to follow the mechanical portion of the on/off switch, something is not aligned right or a spring is worn out.

Next check your flywheel to coil air gap. Place a cover of a notebook or a piece of cardboard from a cigarette pack between the flywheel and the coil. This will get you the proper air gap. Then tighten down the coil. If that's not it, you have a bad flywheel. It's very rare but does happen.

Note: while you have the flywheel exposed, clean it up with light grit sandpaper (180 grit or finer) or steel wool. Rust can interfere with the electrical field.
