SOURCE: Mitsubishi vcr HS-U770

More likley it's not the little white thingy but the belt that drives it. Take the bottom off and get that broken belt out and runn down to the VCR / Tv repair shop and see if they have a new belt

Where can I find a manual?

1. You might try mitsubishi.com. They have some VCR manuals available for download.

2. If no luck there, I suggest you go to ebay.com and search for:
"Mitsubishi HS-U680 VCR". Scroll through the listings and you may find someone who has listed a manual for your HS-U680.

Price to buy a new one

I would contact Mitsubishi as they should know! Just explain to them why and ask for the recommended retail price.

Looking to obtain a HS-U448 manual and remote.

The manual is available from the Mitsubishi Support site: http://support.mitsubishi-tv.com/documents/HS-U448 . The direct link to the manual is http://support.mitsubishi-tv.com/files/oguide/HS-U448.pdf .

The original remote is no longer available. However, remotes.com has a substitute remote: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=HS-U448&uuid=13065385902780 .

A number of universal remotes will probably also work. The codes will be in any remote that still controls a VCR if the remote was programmed after the HS-U448 was released.

I hope this helps.

Plays for 3 secs, stops, and then ejects

This unit needs to have the "idler" changed as well as the belts. Over time, the internal rubber parts get hard ans slippery. There are safety checks inside that will stop the unit when problems are detected. With a slipppery idler assembly, the tape does not get wound into the cassette after passing the heads. Rather than have the tape collect inside and be destroyed, the unit stops. This is a relatively simple repair that any shop should be able to perform. Expect a parts cost in the $35 range. In my opinion, this unit is worth the repair as it will continue to provide service to you for years to come. New replacement units tend to last only a year or two.
