The other day I was listening to music and suddenly my receiver let off some smoke ,started smelling and quit. I certainly miss the quality sound and would Love to have it back. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thank You Very Much, Mark,A Vintage Stereo Aficianado.

u can measure the speakers impedance, if is ok. I think this can be a problem, when is speakers with 4ohm conected.

It is unlikely that the display itself is faulty although it can happen. The typical problem is either the backlight is defective or the suply to the unit has a bad connection. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the display itself. The pins on the ends are the power and ground. I don't recall whether or not your model has a separate back light bulb or not. That too could be burned. Chack for that too.

An amplifier should never be turn on without speakers, it will overload internally.
