Question about Compaq Computers & Internet
I have XP on this machine. When I went to Hughes net I could not completely erase my Local net dial up because I kept getting the message that the page could not be found. I want to get rid of Local net but won't be able to surf the web without it. Tell me how to do this.
The software for Local Net should be in your Add/Remove programs. If it is in there, just right click on the program, and click uninstall.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

AOL known as AOHELL ...Sorry...AOL will cause lots of problems on your computer, I am a previous AOL customer, as well as was a beta tester for them. Most of the time there programs always are full of bugs "errors" ... I would search your computer for the following files and delete them "AOL" "America Online" "AIM" Delete them even if they are .dll .exe. .com anything make sure AOL is off your computer, I would also consider downloading these free programs that I use that make a major difference in the performance and use of my computer which are: CCleaner (Look at Google.com it will be on there), Advance WindowsCare V2 Personal (Look at Google.com it will be on there) These 2 programs will speed your computer up and correct errors for you in your registry and remove spyware that causes problems like you described with not able to read profiles now...I am asking that you please let me know how this works out...and if there is anything else I can do to help you out! of course that's what I volunteer for here!!!!! Thanks!!!

There might be few reasons for this.
The worst is that your Motherboard/HDD is broken, but I am almost sure that this is NOT the case. Motherboards and HDDs do not burn just like that !
The good thing is that you can 'see' your HDD in BIOS, which means it is not dead!
There can also be a wrong BIOS settings for the HDD controller. Check BIOS settings for your HDD-SATA controller. Somehow maybe your BIOS lost/changed HDD settings.
The problem is that I am not sure you can check your HDD on another computer. If you can do that, then it is the best chance to determine if something is wrong with your HDD, Also there (on another computer) you can more easy use some HDD test and repair software. Also, that way you can easy make backup of your important files.
Bott from WINXP BOOT disk and try recovery console (chkdsk/p at command prompt)
Try to download Hiren's Boot CD(http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd).

Online access problems are hard to diagnose. There are so many settings on either your modem, router, wireless device, and at your provider's end that could be the problem. Invite a geek for a beer to fix it.
