It'a fixed now. Someone else posted same problem and the solution posted worked for me: slide hold button on then off. Then hold down Menu and Center button at same time for 6 - 8 seconds. Repeat if necessary. Apple icon should appear.

Thanks to whoever posted that solution.

I found this solution: Push the hold button on, then off. Then, press the Menu and Center button att he same time - hold for 6 to 8 seconds. The Apple icon should appear on your screen. You might have to repeat the steps. (I had to do it twice, but it worked.)

Have Apple iPod Nano 8GB. Turned it off and can not turn it back on. Even when I plug it into a charger the screen is blank.

Try pressing and holding the MENU and center/select button at the same time. This will reset your Ipod (your files don't get deleted), and hopefully you'll see the apple logo as the screen starts up.

If you can still hear the clicking while you use the wheel, but cannot see anything, there is a good chance your screen could be bad.

Grey screen, iPod nano 4g 8gb

Quit trying to charge from the computer, cause a lot of them don't put out enough juice to totally charge the nano.  Turn the thing off and plug this thing into an AC wall charger for about 8 hours.  Then turn the thing on  and press the center button and menu button at the same time to reset the thing.  Then make sure you got the latest itunes edition and plug your cord into the nano and into the computer.  You will be prompted to sync this thing.

Actually this problem happened to me a long before.

1)so i waited for the entire battery to low and it automatically switched off .then charge it.IT MAY WORK

2)for me,when i replug my ipod it showed that FROZED screen.this was pretty sick.so i decided to HOLD the PLAY/PAUSE button for while and it automatically switched off and when i restarted it was working fine.

Frozen ipod nano 8gb

Press your menu button and the center select button at the same time until you see an apple screen. It's hanging on you and that happens when 1. your computer is doing too much at the same time, or 2. the nano got jarred somehow.

White screen and beeps

Try This next time ....
Not all, but many 5G iPod owners have had issues with the latest iPod updates, I had this problem myself a day ago & was almost ready to send it in for a replacement, some HAVE sent theirs in. Anyways, after updating the iPod the iPod no longer works!! All you get is a blank white screen (White Screen Of Death), 3 beeping tones and you hear the hard drive click. Simply resetting the iPod will do nothing, but get you another three beeps & a click. But to resolve this issue do the following, this had worked for me as well as others...

Extended Reset
1) Move the LOCK to the "ON" position.
2) Move it back to the "OFF" position.
3) Hold the "Centre" button then hold down the "MENU" button until you hear the harddrive make the "click" noise.
4) As soon as you hear the drive "click" press and hold the "Centre" button then press & hold the Play/Pause button, you should then see the Apple Logo" like normal and it should then start up like with no problem.

1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, and then turn it off again).
2 Press and hold the Center and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears. this resets the ipod
