Hi I have a defy autodry, front loading dryer, which is not drying, but otherwise working. how and what and where do i check for or change the heating element? or what to do. I live in Malawi Africa and there are no service providers available.
Check that you have 220v first. Your dryer will work on 110V but will not dry. You need to check all thermostats with a ohm meter (be sure to unplug dryer), they should be 2 ohms or less. Set ohm meter to 1x. If they are good go to heating element (your ohm meter should be on 1X as wel. You need to check to make sure you have continuity (however, this does not mean that it is not bad). You need to take it out and visually inspect it to make sure it has no breaks in the coil. If it does you can buy a rewire kit for runder 30 bucks for most models.

A TUBE OF CONTACT CEMENT WORKS WONDERS ON THE SEALING RUBBER - JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TUBE . IF ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR DOOR SEALS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY ITS GOOD ENOUGH TO HOLD YOUR DOOR SEAL IN PLACE - GOOD LUCK.
Their are 2 types of dryers. Electronic dryness sensing style and Autodry style. Yours is Autodry. Electronic dryers have a dryness board which relies on info from moisture sensing bars that the wet clothes rub against. AutoDry models like yours alternates the power between the heating element and the timer motor. This is what you heating assembly looks like:
Check all the components on the heating assembly for continuity.
The dial to the left operates the dryer. Select amount of drying time, push same start button as for washing machine and voila! Also you can go directly from wash mode to dry mode without machine pausing. Select your wash cylcle, your drying time and push start.
hi thanks for the question ther is a thermostat on the air duct at the back of the dryer it has 2 wires at ends and 2 wires in the middle smaller ones this thermostat opens to turn off heat and the small wires on this thermostat when the heats shuts off then power goes to the timer and not before if it shuts off on timed dry timer is ok i would vacuum the dryer make sure all the vent right to the outside is clean as air flow restriction can cause this problem thanks the appliance doc
