17" Sony Monitor Goes Black and No Light Shows On The Switch
Random occurance in this case. The screen goes black and the on/off switch goes off. To fix I basically click the on/off switch and the screen lights back up. This can happen several times in a row and will stay on for a fairly long period of time before it does it again. I have checked all the connections and they are all tight.

catamount309, This is only a guess, but unit may have internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter" board problem. When screen goes BLACK, is it also BLANK? If you can see WIN-desktop with aid of bright flashlight 1 inch from screen, then SMPS is in partial shutdown mode. If you see nothing, then SMPS is in full shutdown. In either case, Technician will need to repair the SMPS/CCFL inverter board. If KNOWN GOOD monitor works with PC, then you know 7100e is bad. Do you know and understand how the new energy efficient screw-in curlie-Q light bulbs work? If the "electronic ballast circuit" not working, then it can't light-up the CCFL tubes on the reverse side of LCD panel then you see black. Do more reading in my fixya profile for more options open to you. Do your research first!! Hey, reading is free!!!
Will you fix or trade for new? 12fixlouie
leos343872, Black screen type of failure. Is anything still displayed even though screen is black when you hold flashlight 1 inch from lower left corner near start button??? Possible "switch-mode-power-supply" in shutdown mode. Tech or you will need to evaluate further!! Hi, I don't think the problem is with your monitor. Your monitor sounds like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The monitor is supposed to turn off if there's no cable attached, which means there's no signal input. When the screen goes black, does the power light stay on and turn orange? or does it go off as well? I would recommend that you lower your screen resolution to 1280x1024 or lower in the Display Properties window, then remove your primary monitor, and connect the monitor to your desktop computer. You should see it light up when connected. The monitor auto-senses when there's a computer attached to the cable and when there's a signal. If it doesn't see a signal, it goes black to save power.
ok ,you may have two monitor drivers installed, or if it is wireless the driver may be faulty etc... a problem like this occur when you have two places on a monitor can be attached to your motherboard, direct or PCI, hat means look at the back of your comp. if there is a similar port that the one your using then when the monitor goes blank and just sits their, switch it over, and you should get an image. if its a driver problem, then safe mode will only work, and reinstall your PCI TO PCI or:
your PCI BRIDGE drivers in the computer managment console. good luck.
if all fails try using an older monitor or just a spare.
