SOURCE: how to port forward using Dlink DI-524 for Emule?

DMZ is a feature that is included on some routers but is not in Internet sharing software. A DMZ allows a single computer on your LAN to expose ALL of its ports to the Internet. When doing this, the exposed computer is no longer ?behind? the firewall. Port Forwarding vs DMZ A DMZ is far easier to set up than port forwarding but exposes your entire computer to the Internet. Sometimes TCP/IP applications require very specialized IP configurations that are difficult to set up or are not supported by your router. In this case, placing your computer in the DMZ is the only way to get the application working. Placing a computer in the DMZ should be considered ?temporary? because your firewall is no longer able to provide any security to it.

As i remember all port forwarding was under Virtual Server configuration. But you need to check maybe web cam is using more then 1 port. Try to play with netstat to see, to which ports Connection establishing when you are connecting to cam.

Explain how to go about using a static or dynamic link to access a remote computer that has an ethernet PTZ camera from d-link install so that the camera can be viewed remotly.

you need to do some port forwarding and possibly use a static address assigned to your camera.
remotely is this context means being able to access the camera feed when the camera is behind a router. in essence what you are trying to do is this:

camera ------ (private) router (public) ---------- internet ------- remote user.

the private side or your router is the one that you control, the private side is what is known as being "behind the router"
your router requires to be able to forward traffic from the public side for this you need to do some port forwarding.

a practical example that you can follow can be found in this website if you look into the Support Resources>FAQ section under the title "How do I remotely view DCS-6620 or DCS-6620G series cameras that are behind a router or gateway?"

the article from dlink goes like this:

For each camera that resides behind a router or gateway, three ports must be forwarded by the router to obtain both audio and video. If audio is not desired, only the HTTP port will need to be forwarded. The three default ports are as follows:
  • 80 (TCP) HTTP Port (allows access to web-configuration and transmits video if other ports are not forwarded)
  • 5002 (TCP/UDP) Audio Channel Port (transmits synchronized audio)
  • 5003 (TCP/UDP) Video Channel Port (transmits synchronized video)
These port numbers will need to be changed in the camera configuration on each additional camera that is added behind the router. Port numbers can be changed from the Advanced > Network screen.

please look in to the section described within the link to see how camera and router need to be configured.

I hope this helps!

Windows home server remote access - cant get it to work

It's probably not about RDP. I think we are talking about the homeserver remote access that allows you to up/download stuff to/from yourshares, run the server console or remote control a workstation in your homenetwork from outside (from the internet).

The whole procedure is a little complex. In short, you have to:
- start remote access in the WHS console (settings - remote access)
- create and configure a dyndns domain name (or something similar) to find your server from outside
- configure the user profiles to allow remote access. They need to have "strong" passwords.
- forward the port numbers 80, 443 and 4125 to the servers IP address on your internet router.
- forward the port 3389 too, in case you want to use the RDP protocol to access the servers remote desktop.

That should be it.
If you have several routers in your net, you have to forward the ports from the first one to the second and from there to the home server.

Since we don't know where exactly you are stuck, you should post a little more information.

Hope this helps.

My router ( di 524 ) is blocking servers in Bettlefield Heroes, how can I fix it? I know the ip and port of that server.

1. Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.0.1.

2. You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

3.Click the Advanced button near the top of the page. The menu on the left should change. In this new menu, click Virtual Server.

4. We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Battlefield heroes requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Virtual Server menu and then click Apply.

fill up the blank boxes
Name: Battlefield
Private IP : ip address of pc where you play the battlefield
Protocol: both
Private port: ( provided by battlefield tech support)
Public port: ( provided by battlefield tech support)
schedule: always

then click appy

Letting Ultra VNC go through a Dlink router to connect to a serve

You may have to define the VNC service under services then port forward that service on port 5900 to internal 5900.

Of if it has a Virtual Server option just forward port 5900 to 5900 and send it to the LAN IP Address of the computer you want to use.

If you need instuctions let me know and i'll post,

ta, HPC

Port forward

What you have done is fine. "Integer" means that you have to input a number between 1 and 65535 as the public and private port.

D-Link have specified that it must be an integer because some other firewall products from other manufacturers also accept service names such as "ping", "pop3", "ntp", etc.

You need to forward the remote desktop port to your server. The Remote Desktop port is 3389. Go to the port forwarding section of your router and find out your Server's network IP address and assign it to forward the Remote Desktop port of "3389". Save your changes and try connecting again.

Configure the firewall

You can use the Virtual Server to forward an individual port to one of your computers. You cannot forward the same port to multiple computers. In order to configure the Virtual Server you need to know the IP address of the computer that needs the port opened and the service port number. The links below will help you find the IP address of your machine. If you don?t know which port needs to be opened, try checking the software manufacture?s support website for information on use behind firewall. Configuring the Virtual Server: Step 1 Access the device configuration by entering 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. Login with your username and password. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Step 2a If the port you need to forward is a common port, it will be under the predefined virtual server list at the bottom of the page. Click the pad and paper icon next to the virtual server entry you want to use. The Protocol Type and Service Port fields are preconfigured. Click the Enable radio button to use the virtual server. Enter the private IP address of the computer that will use the service port. Configure the Schedule as needed, then Apply your settings. Step 2b If the port you need to forward is not listed under the predefined virtual server list at the bottom of the page, you can create a new entry for your application. Click the Enable radio button to use the virtual server. Give your virtual server a name. Next, enter the private IP address of the computer that will use the service port. Then, select the Protocol Type and enter the Service Port. If you don?t know how to use Private and Public port assignment, then just enter the same port number in both fields. Configure the Schedule as needed and Apply your settings.
