I NEED TO LOAD WIN XP ONTO MY SONY VAIO NOTEBOOK WHICH IS THE CHEAPEST WAY .I HAVE AN AMACOM XTERNAL CD RE-WRITER BUT HAVE LOST THE POWER CORD can i load onto an external hard-dive and transfer to my notebook?

Assuming you have an xp license ...you can copy the winxp disk to a flash drive (usb) and boot from the usb drive to install windows.....you'll need to make the Flash drive bootable and you'll need to change the boot order in the viao's bios

Sony VAIO VGN-NR120E/S PC Notebook not powering up

ur boot files are being corrupted either there is a trojen or a virus that's preventing the Win from working.
do this...when u switch on the machine press F8 function key and try to load in Safe Mode. if u can do that then get Tuneup Utility from my website (download page) www.sureshayyar.110mb.com
install and run the cleanup process...1n click maint in that does a good job...use all the tools in that and get ur machine to working....
else u need to boot from a Win CD try do a repair of ur OS....

HOW TO ENTER CMOS SETUP OR BIOS SETUP OF SONY VGN-FW290E OR HOW TO INSTALL WIN XP IN THIS NOTEBOOK

To enter the CMOS setup BIOS you hit f2 during the power on. After you enter the bios to the boot up screen and select first boot up = CD ROM. Save the configuration and reboot. Now pop in your windows XP cd into the CDROM, your computer will bootup from the CDROM. You can now reinstall windows.

  1. Under option 2 select Computers - Notebook
  2. Click Continue
  3. Either use Option 1 to auto detect your laptop or use option 3 and select the series (VGN-CS)
  4. For model find the full model number
  5. Click Continue
The next screen will have all the relevant drivers for your laptop.

U need to download the raid drivers and put them onto a floppy drive .. during loading of XP install u press a key to load Raid or Scussi drivers .. hit that, load the driver u put onto floppy and it shud then find it
