Well...go to the website. The page for your model will show you how to do a system restore - this will result in all of your songs being erased, so it is a good idea to back up all the songs first.

Back the songs up by connecting your iPod to the computer, opening up the iPod icon in My Computer, and opening the music folder. Create a temporary folder on your desktop to store the music. Drag the music files from the music folder of the iPod to the temporary folder you have just created on the desktop. Now you can update the player, which will erase your songs, but your music will be available to redownload onto the iPod.

All it says is www.appleipod.com/support/ipod and says low battery and does not turn on

It's possible that the internal battery simply will not hold any charge (or is partly shorted, meaning it prevents operation even when plugged in -- you tried that, I assume). Anyway, the batteries on these units can be replaced by the user (with a little bit of skill) and you should be able to find batteries online for less than $20. If a new battery fixes it, you're all set, otherwise, you could always sell that new battery to someone else. I've done this with all of my old iPods and they play for two or three times longer than when they did new!

My original 80GB Ipod gets an error code 1437

This symptom may be caused by an issue with the digital signing ofWindows XP drivers. Following the steps below to reregister several.dll files mentioned below may resolve this issue. Before proceedinghowever, try to restore the iPod using the latest version of iTunes.. If you are unable to restore it or the symptom reappears, then follow the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the iPod from the computer and close iTunes.
  2. Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser: regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll

  3. Open the Notepad program by navigating to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
  4. In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
  5. From the File menu, choose Save As.
  6. In the File name: field type appleipod.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
  7. Close Notepad and locate the appleipod.bat file. It should appear on the Desktop with the icon shown below: ts1539_1.jpg
  8. Double-clickthe file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for abouta minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed tothe next step.
  9. The appleipod.bat file can be deleted at this time.
  10. Open iTunes and connect the iPod.
  11. When the iPod appears in iTunes, restore the iPod and resync your content.
Note: Because some malwaremay unregister the .dll files, make sure you have the most recentupdates to your anti-virus software and then do a full scan of yourfiles.

Will not download new software

Sadly, what that little folder means is that your hard drive is probably dead. (or if it's a nano, the flash memory got fried somehow). That's why the system software can't reload. You could try to find a replacement drive on eBay & install it yourself for fairly cheap, or you could bring it to a local repair shop & see if they'll do it.
