Doing a BIOS-upgrade incorrectly can "kill" the motherboard. If you _need_ to upgrade the BIOS, take the computer to a qualified technician.
If you do _NOT_ "need" to upgrade, then don't try.

Help to upgrade memory of Dell Dimension 8100

Im sure you mean 1GB of ram.

Upgrading ram is possibly the easiest upgrade to a pc.Firstly shut down the computer and remove the wall plug.

Remove the casing
Make sure you touch something metal away from the case before entering the chassis of the computer... anti static wristbands are good.

As soon as you open the case you will see the dimm slots where the ram goes.

You will find two plastic clips on each ram module, just pull these back to release the ram and insert the new ram.You may need to push firmly down to lock them in.The clips will auto lock.

Just be careful not to push to hard as to damage the mainboard.

I installed Window XP Pro and I lost my USB ports. I updated the bios, but this has not helped. The CMOS settings do not even show USB available.

if its not showing up at all in the bios check the jumpers on the mother board... however before you do this download the manual for the motherboard... just google it and find the pdf version directly from the manufacturer. then i suggest you have some help with someone who knows what there doing because the next steps can be hazardous to not only the computer but to yourself ...however if you feel capable try it.

fist makes sure everything is unplugged.
then if u can get ur hands on an antistatic wrist strap wonderful..if not move the computer to a spot away from carpet perferably a table and open the computer and touch the powersupply *if u dont know what this is dont go any further* then look at the manual and put the jumpers/ dipp switches on default. then u whould be able to see then again once everything is connected if not then the motherboard is malfunctioning

This is an internal speaker. Find the speaker pins on the mother board. Should be somewhat close to the front panel connections.

Upgrade HP a1010n Motherboard

Techguru2009: When you upgrade your motherboard, basically you have a new computer. You need to know how your hard/cd drives are connected. Either IDE or SATA. IDE is legacy hardware 80 pin and SATA is the new Thing small connecter. Next is your RAM. There is Dimm, DDR1, DDR2. Find out what your old system was using, or just buy new memory cards, DDR2 is not that expensive. Ask for the manual first read and check what is required, take a list of what your old computer has. I can also help you install everything via chat.

Replaced motherboard

If you can find out the make and model number of the motherboard inside you can look on the net for the manual (or let me know and I will look for you), which tells you where everything goes. The make and model number is usually printed on the board.
