Question about Sony VAIO VGN-NS160D/W Notebook
It works if you shake it a bit... and the battery is brand new!

Seemingly your laptop dc jack is dead. How to confirm it? If you should wiggle your laptop charger on a position to let your laptop charge, it indicates your dc jack is loose. Either replace it or repair it. If your dc jack works well, please check your ac adapter. Maybe your charger is dead.

SOURCE: SONY VAIO BATTERY CHARGING
This is not a problem, this is a designed function to increase battery life. To adjust this, go to "vaio control centre", and then power management. Inside this is battery care, here you can adjust the settings or de-activate this function.

The New battery will not be charged yet, I wouldn't of thought, until you plug it in and charge it.
your problem is with the connector inside the Pc, that the charger connects to,
This has come lose and is now failing,
$150/$200 to repair the connection.

This information is from Sony Vaio support website:
- Remove the battery from the VAIO and check the battery and the VAIO for damage, dirt or corrosion on the battery connectors
- Re-insert the battery and make sure the battery is well inserted and locked
- If possible, test the VAIO with another battery of the same type to see if the problem is caused by the battery itself. If the problem lies with the battery, you may want to consider purchasing a new battery.
If you are unsure where the problem lies, or have additional questions, please contact VAIO Support.

Try unplugging the power supply from the computer. Turn it off and then after 2 mins restart it. (Plug it back into the computer)
