SOURCE: Dayton SU936C generator starts but no power

Check brushes. Must be at least 1/2 " long. Check all connections. To flash field: use 12 volt battery neg. - goes to machine ground. Pos + goes to the pos+ brush, the one that's not grounded. Give it a couple seconds on the 12 volts.

I'm Looking for a Manual for a Dayton Generator Model 4LM41A

Could be it's in the exercise mode. And when the exercise period ends it's shutting down.
Generac might have made this unit for Dayton.

When we purchased our home in '04, it had a Dayton generator in the basement, model no. 3W056A, serial no. 55658 F83. It runs on natural gas, or so I've been told: It has never run since...

Let me make sure I read your post corerectly ... You have a Natural Gas operated generator hooked up in your basement? That's a train wreck waiting to happen! How is the exhaust vented out and how air tight is your basement? What keeps the carbon monoxide from reaching the rest of the house, when it's in operation?

Generators are a great back up. I have a 15 kw, that carries most of the house, plus 3 pumps during a power outage (Due to severe electrical storms, recently) we have had 2 power outages in 5 days. However, the National Building Code says "NO" to any type of generator being operated inside a residence or building of any type.

Without trying to sound critical, you need to rethink your plans of getting your generator running again. At least in your basement. Have it moved outside first and check with your local officials regarding clearances to any openings in the house. Or as you said "Just scrap it."

I sincerely hope this helps you make the right decision. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Did drynot get a response on his march 30, 2011 question about the dayton 4lm39b 10k generator manual? i need one.

You can get it through Grainger.com. I would try e-mail first as if you call they will ask you for an account number. All Dayton generators are Generac units rebranded for Grainger. Grainger no longer offers the standby home product line last I checked. I read on another post that Grainger e-mailed him back.

Dayton "torpedo" heater turns itself off immediately after iniital ignition. How do i trouble shoot it?

All the torpedo type heaters are very similar. The website I recommend supplies parts for all brands. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4124129-yearly_maintenance_reddy_heaters which explains the problem, how to fix it and where to get the parts. Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.
