Question about Robin Subaru SGX7500E Portable Generator
The unit worked and we ran it long enough to make sure it generated the electricity we needed for the house. But it continued to run very rough throughout the time we were using it. Chugging a lot and threatening to cut out.

When the engine is not running the throttle is held wide open by the governor arm/spring. Varnish in carb most likely kept throttle stuck in the open position until small amount of gas in carb was consumed. Check your linkage /governor spring to make sure it is working properly. With engine off you should be able to move throttle closed easily and it should go to full after you release. After you adjust governor and are ready to start engine be ready to manually control throttle if engine begins to run at full speed. Runaway engine could have damaged the centrficical force style governor mech inside of the engine. As the engine starts have your finger on the throttle linkage, push the throttle open and you should feel the governor push against your pressure. Now as for the carb itself, blowing air thru the orifices is not sufficient. You must clean fuel passages with fine wire removing debris being carefull not to distort passage (make larger). Check that fuel runs from tank to carb with out restriction. Finally empty tank of fuel and use premium fuel for a while to help get power back up to normal. Good luck

SOURCE: generator turns on and runs
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,
Since I don't have a model number to work with I am going to assume this is a generator with brushes. (I need your model number!)
Having said that... TRY THIS:
1. Plug in an electric drill to the output power plug and turn on the output power switch with the generator running.
2. Squeese the drill trigger switch and rotate the drill chuck as fast as you can. This will flash the field of the generator and often output power starts right away. NOTE: When power starts it will try and twist the drill chuck out of your hand. Just let go of the trigger and the drill chuck.
If you have an inverter type power head the steps are different for flashing the field. The easiest way is to do a male to male power cord from utility supply power connection and turn on the output power switch to re-establish a field in the PMG of the rotor.
There are other steps but without a model number this is what I am sending off at the moment. Respond with a model number if the steps above do not work and I will help you.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
