It may just be overheating. The fan inside might be not working properly or it could be clogged up with dust where the vents are. If you feel confident enough it would be worth you stripping it down and checking the insides.

SOURCE: sony vaio pcg-grt170 when I push the power button,

Perform these steps and the issue will be resolved if the issue is with the Static charges on the Mother board.

I recommend you use Power Drain procedure by following these steps:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

SOURCE: I have a Sony Vaio PCG-661L I shut it down and it won't restart

do you get any leds when charger is inserted? if yes, try to remove battery, insert charger and press power on. also, i would recommend you test the output of your charger using a multimeter to rule out the possibility of a faulty charger.

SOURCE: My Sony Vaio PCG-61611L won't power on, the battery is fully charged and AC adapter is working (green light goes on). Please help!

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

2010 sony vaio model PCG-61611L works fine but can't see the screen without a flashlight what does this mean what will I have to replace how much will it cost me at a shop

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I have a sony vaio model pcg-61611L. When I hit the power button it turns green and stays on but I cant get the screen to show a picture. I have taken the memory sticks out and tried them one by one but...

I have 3 of these laptop Pcg-61611l and all 3 are black screen on start up. Sony has a problem with this and is not saying any thing about it. What I do is turn on laptop let the green power bottom stay on ,walk away for 10 to 15 minutes then shut it down and restart you should see the three green lights by the power bottom flash twice and then your working again . Laptop will work fine until you turn it off. Repeat to power back up.

Sony vaio model pcg-61611L it turns on for 4 seconds and then it turns off using the ac adapter . help please

The charger may be bad, will it charge the battery? a common problem is the DC jack in the laptop breaks connection on the motherboard internittent operation or no power and shut down. If you can sub the charger that will tell if the power supply is bad or the problem is in the laptop. If the computer is the issue I recommend a professional because it will require extensive parts removal.

Vaio will not turm on

you will most likely need to replace the dc jack, which is the port where your charger plug plugs into...

To test if your dc jack is bad... Remove the Battery, Plug the Power cord into laptop then attempt to power on... If no lights turn on, no fan spins.. your DC jack is bad...
DC Jacks Cost $6 to $10 but you need to find someone experienced to replace it, or you might end up with a dead motherboard as well..
