Question about Canon Pixma MP600 Printer

Open Question

I replaced a third party black ink cartridge in my mp600 canon printer. It is not recognizing it. I went back and had it replaced, still no luck. I cleaned around the ink heads with alcohol. What else

Cleaning with the alcohol did not help either

I left an empty black ink cartridge in it for a long time before I changed it, now the printer won't recognize it, I was wondering if I damaged something or if there is something I can do to get the printer to recognize it.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

I replaced a black ink cartridge and now it wont print. I have a Canon mp780 inkjet. I have used the maintenance function to clean the head, align the head, and do a nozzle check. Any ideas? Thanks Ron

One possibility is the cartridge you put in is a third party without the chip. If the printer is trying to read how much ink is in the cartridge and either there is no chip or the chip is faulty the printer will think there is no ink in that slot and not print.

That solution would be either to go back to canon ink or purchase from a trusted third party seller.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

How do i get ink cartrige recognized?

When that same thing happened to me, I was still under warrantee and called Canon. I was disappointed to find out, when a cartridge runs out it has to be replaced or the printer won't work regardless of the ink level of the others.

U150 error on MP600 Canon printer

Canon should offer a product recall on all printers affected by this common U150 problem. I wonder though if they are even aware of it, or care. There are no forums (as far as I can see) on the Canon web site. Maybe they're clueless, and that's bad. Maybe they're NOT clueless and don't care, and that's bad too.

Printer wont recognize new or old cartridge

Use a Q-Tip and some clean water to clean the contacts behind the cartridge in the printer and on the cartridge itself. Then use a pencil with a clean eraser to polish the contacts. Be careful not to touch the part where the ink comes out of the cartridge.

Also, are you using Canon ink or third party?

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.
