Convergence will not line up after replacing ic & resistors

I replaced the Ic's and resistors on my Philips 51pw9303. The red convergence will not line up. Setting it to factory settings makes it worse, until I go in manually and redo the blue and red. Blue goes all the way together the red has a one inch gap. I do not have original remote.

We did not just the ones burned out, we will do that today. And the Chassis is a DPTV 345.

MY RED WONT LINE UP AND SEEMS TO BE WAVIE. WHAT DO I DO?

  • tnorton2006 Feb 05, 2009

We actually did replace everything, and still have the problem. Is there any way that the board would need to be replaced? It looks as if the copper is separating from the board. Or should we just try to replace the resistors or the chip again? Looking at the set it seems to be the left side that is the warped.
Thank you so much for your advice and knowledge.

Did you replace the resistors when you replaced the convgence chips? If one of them was bad you would still have the problem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your conconvergence will not line up after replacing ic & - 2c07611.pngips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

You should not need the board.  Lets go back to the basics.

Goto your convergence menu using the remote.
On the remote press - menu - picture - convergence I believe.
Try to adjust the RED - up - down - left - right.
Do the same for the blue.

Does it work in all directions?
If so the convergence chips/resistors should be ok.

If it does not work in all directions one or more chips or resistors may be dead again.  Or it may be a bad solder joint.

OK call local TV Shops ask if they might have a extra handunit That will work. You can also order correct remote online for your TV. CK pawn shops sometimes they have extra remotes they sell for 5.00

You may need to just replace the convergence board.

If red is square and off proportionately, use the red centering rings to close the gap.

Color won't converge

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

resistor along the convergence are 2Watt size or less. they are easy to find as all of them are in pairs. if you find one is not the same on the other, then replace that resistor. change the 2 convergence IC at the same time. let us know.

what about blue? this is an indication that maybe one of the convergence ic have failed. generally you replace both. falure of the ic can also be sympton of other problems.. The oputput ic resistors. the covergence power fuses. but the first step is to replace the ics

Convergence on a Philips 51pw9303 rear projection TV

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Which IC is for red convergence?

you need to replace both because they are both linked together with the green as each IC controls one color fully and half the green, so when one IC fails that places a strain on the other IC through the green, so that one will soon follow. You need two STK392-120 ICs and you will also need four 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link with free installation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself. Heres the link.
