SOURCE: Icing up in bottom of the freezer

I don't know the particulars of your brand, but if it is frosting up Most fridges will have a bad heater element, a bad defrost timer (or controller if it is electronic) or most likely a bad defrost limit switch. This is a switch mounted on the inlet line of the evaporator with a clip and senses when the evaporater is defrosted so that it does not get too hot and start melting parts. This switch should have zero ohms of resistance when cold (below 40ish) and be completely open when above 40 or so. The easiest way to test it is take the wall covering the evaporater off and locate the plugs for the swiths. Test continuity through it. If it is sitting in ice, it should have no resistance. If it is open and in ice (infinite resistance) then it's bad.

SOURCE: Build up of ice in bottom of freezer compartment

During the defrost cycle heaters in the wall of the freezer are turned on to melt the frost build up. This melted frost "water" is supposed to run out a drain in the bottom of the freezer and collect in a pan under the refrigerator/freezer where it will eventually evaporate. If this drain is blocked it will cause a lot of water to collect in the bottom of the freezer and that water will eventually turn back into ice. I recommend defrosting the freezer manually, removing all the ice/water buildup in the bottom, and trying to unplug the drain line to the pan underneath. Also check the seal on the freezer door. If it's not sealing well it could be letting a lot of moisture enter the freezer which would lead to more frost buildup and more water during the defrost cycle.

Water is leaking from top part of freezer down to bottom of inside of the frig. Frost is on the top of the frig in the frigerator.

FIRST STEP: UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR. AFTER IT'S UNPLUGGED, DO THE FOLLOWING:

Remove the food from the freezer compartment and place inside the refrigerator temporarily.

Remove the bottom panel and back panel from inside the freezer compartment. You will probably notice that the bottom of the inside of the freezer is covered in ice. Use hot water (not boiling) from the tap and pour it on to the ice that is formed on the inside of the freezer compartment to melt the ice.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE A HEAT GUN TO MELT THE ICE AS IT WILL MELT THE INSIDE OF THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT. ALSO DO NOT CHOP AT THE ICE WITH A SHARP INSTRUMENT OF ANY KIND AS THIS WILL PUNCTURE AND DESTROY THE INSIDE OF THE FREEZER.

If you have a wet vac, you can remove the melted water using the wet vac. Or you can use a towel to mop up the excess water. You will still have to pour hot water onto the ice until all of the ice in the freezer is melted. Patience is key as it takes time to defrost all of this ice.

You will see a drain hole in the back of the freezer compartment that is still clogged with ice. You will need to continue to apply hot water until the ice has completely melted.

Note: When the ice in the drain breaks free, you will see all of the water disappear as it empties out.
In Whirlpool refrigerators, the water runs to a tray underneath the refrigerator. You will hear the water empty out into that tray. Then you will know that you have completely cleared the ice from the drain pipe in the freezer. To double-check this, take a small cup of warm water and dump it into the drain hole and you will see it visibly disappear and run into that tray underneath the refrigerator.

Replace the freezer panels back into the freezer compartment and plug it back in and return your freezer items back in to the freezer and you should be all set.

My bottom refrigerator is not cold. The freezer is okay.

Check to make sure the fan in the freezer compartment is working and not blocked. This delivers the cold air to the refrigerator. The fan should run every time the freezer calls for cold.
