You only use Pictbridge when printing directly from the camera to the printer. If you activate Pictbridge and connect the camera to the computer, you will get "communication error".
The printer also needs to be Pictbridge compatible.
Is your camera set to auto mode? I'm not sure if the CX7430 has manual settings or not, but try making sure its on auto. Its possible the lens or the CCD (the device responsible for actually taking the photo) is going bad.
