Thanks Mr.Pedersen, I never could find the hand book, thanks for the link. I got this board for $6 at my swapmeet about 5 years ago. I got the usb thing figured out, they had/have a bios I didn't know about. So good read, and now I will see if I can find drivers that came out after 06'. Oh, and 2.25 crashes it, the mobo seems to not like the second slot being used.

  • Banjosix Oct 28, 2012

I didn't need any drives that came after 06! The one I was using came with the board's install disk, funny how I had all the peripherals but no hand book. Long story short, I bit the bullet and got the new chipset, and now I'm running on 4gs. To be more specific 3.14 Gs, now it's time to try windows 7 64. It's rated for XP 64, but I have yet to hear anything good of that 64 OS, and it's really hard to find. Anyway, thanks once more Mr.Pedersen and this whole site, people get mad when I ask questions about this board.

Hello from here you can download a manual:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=544&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0

It supports:

Dual channel DDR memory architecture
DDR400/333/266 DDR SDRAM
4 x 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM socket support up to 4 GB

One of the ram modules could have a defect
Try insert one at the time.
You must have a windows 64 bit system to use more than 3 Gb
Try to update the mainboard drivers
The one for the chipset
The ram slots probably not take modules bigger than 1 Gb
There is too types of ram Ecc and non Ecc.
Ecc ram does not work on this mainboard.

Good luck

SOURCE: 2 gig ram stick

Absolutely, 2 Gigs stick of RAM exist. Unfortunately your motherboard's maximum memory supported is 2GB. This site specifies very clearly 1 gig stick max per slot:

SOURCE: DDR2's only showing half installed RAM

IF THE SYSTEM SAYS YOU HAVE 1GB RAM THAN YOU HAVE 1 GIG OF RAM, EVEN THOU SOMEONE TOLD YOU YOU HAD 2-512MG=1GB.

HERE IS HOW I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING YOU HAVE 2-DDR-2 1 GIG STICKS THAT MEAN IF 1 IS INSTALLED THAN YOU HAVE 1 GB AND IF YOU COULD GET 2 STICKS WORKING TOGETHER THAN YOU WOULD HAVE 2GB RAM.
1 CHIP SET = 1GB RAM
2 CHIP SET = 2GB RAM

YOU MOTHERBOARD MAY NOT ALLOW THAT MUCH RAM, OR WHAT I MEAN THE BIOS MAKE UP THE AMOUNT OF RAM.

TO RULE OUT ANY BAD CHIP SETS OR GOOD RAM OR BAD RAM.

TAKE THE PEACE OF RAM THAT IS WORKING OUT AND REPLACE IT WITH THE OTHER PEACE AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN.
IF IT WORKS THAN LEAVE THAT ONE IN PLACE AND INSTALL THE SECOND PEACE IN THE SECOND SLOT.
IF BOTH CHIP SET ARE GOOD THAN BOTH SHOULD WORK OKAY TOGETHER.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, IT MAYBE SOME DUST IN THE MEMORY LOTS
OR THE SLOT MAYBE DAMAGED.
OR
THE CHIP DESIGN LAYOUT MAYBE THE OPPOSITE SIDE, THIS MAY MEANS THE CHIPS MAY FACE EACH OTHER, OR FACE OUTWARD FROM EACH OTHER.

Ram speed-what does it do

Your PC support up to 4 gig of memory in 4 slots.
DDR 333/400 ram memory of 1 gig each.
So you need to know how much memory your system had.
Probably 2 gig.So the more memory the better will be the speed for run apps in your system.

Cpu speed for ddr 400 ram

cpu speed has nothing to do with ram. they are completely independant. ram speed is important to the FSB (front serial bus) this is the speed at which your motherboard communicates with the devives attached to it. cpu speed refers to how fast a cpu can process info. or how fast it "thinks". most motherboards have the capability of upgrading cpu's. your mobo (motherboard will support the following cpu's:
any pentium 4 up to 3.0 ghz
it supports the following ram
ddr (nott ddr 2 or 3) up to 2 gigs (1 gig each slot) of 533mhz speed (or less)
it also supports up to 2 gigs of sdram either pc133 or pc100
you are using 400 speed ram as you stated i would upgrade to a 533 speed ram as it will be faster, but this is not necessary. as for the cpu just get any P4 (pentium 4) that is 3.0 ghz or less and it will work.

Memory type is the major problem with the 741GX chipset. Very touchy. I used Crucial PC3200 High Density memory to start with (2 x 1 gig Memory), system was lagging even though adjusted settings in bios. whenever a USB device was pluged in, the system would stop responding. Switched to low density memory and no problems since (Ultra PC3200 (2 x 1 gig Memory), and the USB device problem is also solved. I am running WinXP with SP2.

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
