SOURCE: i have a proforce 2500 watt generator and it cuts

Low oil doesn't usually make engines cut out. Clean the air filter, change the plug and wire. If this doesn't help then I think you're looking at a carb. problem. Probably just clogged jets & ports. It's very common on small engine carbs. It shouldn't take more than 2 quarts of oil. Probably not even one.

SOURCE: I need to rewind a rope on pull start powermate generator

This requires a bit of strength in the hands and the recoil will have a fair amount of tension behind it. Best have a small engine service center look at. Not expensive

How to put recoil spring and pull rope in echo 2400 brush cutter

The recoil housing is held on by four screws around the housing on the corners, the pulley is held to the housing by one screw, all tension needs to relieved from the spring before removing the pulley. you can either cut the rope if you are replacing it, or you can pull some of the rope out, lining up the notch in the pulley with the outlet hole, catch the pulley and hold it from rewinding, and using the slack in the rope pull a section back in and up through the notch, the pulley can now unwind its tension without winding up the rope. Now remove the pulley, it should leave the spring in the housing. If the spring is very rusty it should be replaced, if you've sprung the spring out and have a mess, be prepared for a little fight, you can try hooking the outside of the spring in its tab in the housing and while forcibly holding that in place begin coiling the spring back in place, or try gathering the spring into a large coil and holding the coil with a pair of pliers begin shrinking the coil's diameter by winding it up from the center, last resort and the one I'd recommend if you're looking at a rusty spring, get a new one from an Echo dealer, it comes pre-wound and a nifty retaining clip, it simply slides into place in the housing, and as it goes into place the ring will pop loose. Now for the rope. Install the rope by putting the new piece in the spool and tying it off, thread the other end through the housing from the inside out, and put it into the handle and tie it off on that end, now place the spool into the housing being sure to engage the spring lightly, now install the screw so the spool doesn't come out, pull the slack rope up through the notch in the pulley and begin winding the pulley in the direction it turns when the rope is normally extended, after about 4 turns drop the rope out of the notch and let the pulley wind up the rope, if you have slack repeat a couple turns until there is no slack

OK, this is a pretty simple fix, if you have 3 hands. What happened when the rope broke is that it allowed the recoil spring to unwind. You need to take the housing off again, put the rope back inside the housing. You then need to turn the big pulley that the rope wraps onto in the same direction as it would turn when you pull the rope. You probably need to turn it 6-8 times at least. Once you get this done, you need to hold the pulley secure and feed the rope thru the housing again, put the handle back on the rope. This last step is where the 3rd hand comes in very handy! This should get you back in business.

The starting cord has broken and I need to make repairs . I would like some guidence

Take the housing off for the pull rope. Inside you'll find a spool. Take that off and underneath you'll find a spring. Replace the pull rope and connect it to the spool like the old one is. With the handle outside of the case run the rope through the pull rope hole then attach it to the spool. Wind all but a foot or so of the new rope back onto the spool. The spring will have a way of attaching to the case and to the spool. Attach the springs to the case. There will be a notch cut into one side of the spool. You need to lay the rope into this notch and then place spool back into the case at the same time attaching the spring to the spool. Don't worry about tensioning the springs. Once the spool is back in you need to start winding up the spool in the direction that tightens the spring. You'll need to make about 5-8 rotations depending on the length of the rope. At this point, position the notch in the spool even with the hole where the pull rope enters the case. Pull on the pull rope handle until you pull the slack rope back through the notch and outside the housing. Then release the rope and the slack should be pulled back inside the housing and wrapped around the spool. Here is a video on changing a pull rope on a lawn mower. The idea is basically the same.

How to replace starter rope and spring on the 14" poulan. What's the trick for getting the spring wound and installed back in the housing?

There should be a mount inside the casing and another one on the starter rope socket. Wind all but a foot or so of your pull rope onto the sprocket then mount the spring on the mount in the casing. Don't worry about winding the spring yet. After that attack the spring to the sprocket. There should be a notch cut in the edge of the sprocket. Lay the rope in the notch and then place the spocket back into the case. With the rope in the notch you can then start winding up the spring taking the twists out of the rope as you do it. Depending on the length of your rope you'll probably need 5 or 6 turns of the sprocket. Once you get it wound then position the notch where the pull rope exits the housing. Grap the rope handle and pull the excess rope until it is all in the sprocket or outside the case and no longer in the notch. There might be some retainers for the sprocket. I"m not that familiar with Poulan. Secure these if there are some and put the housing back onto the saw and you should be good to go.

Poulan starter rope

to fix starter rope first you must wind spring and place back in housing. just grab spring by middle and wind ,you will have to get it smaller than housing hole. One end should hook to a tab at housing rest of it sets inside itself. once set in housing dont let go, insert rope housing over top & screw in. rope housing should have some return spring to it when pulled. if rope is not tight on return pull simply add one winding to spool. hope it helps!

Pull cord on chain saw will not retract.

Most of the rancher models are easy to look at. Take the four screws off that hold the starter cover on.When off have a look to see if the pulley is ok or one of the starter dogs(pawls) is jamed . If dogs ok take the screw out of the centre of pulley and remove it ,check for spring tension. if there is just be carful to leave sring in housing. look at spring if broken or out of shape renew it and rope.check for cracks in pulley. When renewing spring and rope get correct rope length and diameter. don't over tension new spring. hop this helps
