My Samsung model RB1855sl shows the temperatures for the fridge and freezer in celcius. Can you tell me what appropriate temps would be for them to be working? I loaded up with gorceries a few days ago,...

the freezer should be arond -20 degrees celcius and the fridge aroud 5 degrees celcius
There could be a problem with air flow
the fan in the freezer has probably stopped or the air flow into the fridge is probably blocked
You could have a defrost problem. this would allow ice to build up in the freezer blocking off ai flow.
A technician can help you with that

Hello,
It sounds like the defrost is not working properly and ice has built up inside where the fan is and the ice is restricting normal operation of the fan.Try fully defrosting over 24 hours if possible the defrost heater will still need investigating.

Hope this helps.

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

All of a sudden stopped getting cold in the fridge portion, freezer is fine

If you completely defrost the freezer and restart the unit and it doesn't get cold in the refrig portion it could be the internal fan that moves cold air from the freezer to the frig area if it does get cold after an hour or so then it is probably the defrost coil needs replacing. I am not familar with your exact model but this senario applies to many different units.

Model rs21dcsv freeze is working but fridge is not working

CHeck to see if there is ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so you have a defrost problem. Manually defrost it then take the back wall out of the frezer and check ohms on the heater if heater is ok then replace just the defrost timer and thermostat. If heater is bad replace all three.

Samsung RS267LABP Side by side refrigerator

Not sure if you have one or two problems, so need to be systematic. From what you say it seems you have a defrost heater problem.
Here is how I would start:
- Get a service manual for your fridge.
- Make sure you are not running the fridge in "sales" mode
- Run a self test of the unit (as described in the manual).
- Based on results, unplug the fridge and remove cover of the electronic compartment
- Remove the connector of the heater units.
- Measure the resistance of each heater to see if they are all good.
- If this is the case re-plug the connector and plug the fridge
- Using "force mode" described in the manual turn the heaters on and measure voltage on the respective connector.... this will tell you if board and built-in relays are good.

This should give you a good start of where the problem is.
Note than when in force mode you can also force the compressor to run in different modes and measure the related voltages. If the above does not get any hint, then moce your troubleshooting that way.

Good luck!

Samsung Fridge side by side

It sounds like you have a defrost problem. This will either be the defrost heaters the defrost thermostat or defrost timer. In order to check the heater if you are competent enough you can check that you have resistance across the heater. Alternatively you can rotate the timer (normally in the fridge section abov the thermostat control) around to a defrost cycle (you will normally hear a click) and check to see if the defrost heater kicks in. Please note the cabinet has to be cold in order for the heaters to work. The defrost sensor should also have zero resistance across the terminals when the coil is cold. Please do no attempt the above unless you are practically skilled. A good fridge guy should be able to quickly identify the problem and remedy it. Defrost heaters are generally the first part to fail. Hope this is of some help.
