I'm having a similar problem. I don't know the exact fix yet, I'm just starting to research. Check this link: http://www.applianceguru.com/forum1/1916.html
It sounds like the ignitors are suspect. This may be a weak component for Vikings. This link recommends a Maytag replacement part.

SOURCE: Viking range top 2 burners won't light

Either the igniters are at fault (which is usually the case when one or two are not working) or the entire oven ignition system needs to be replaced and can be done through Viking themselves whether you want them to replace it or you yourself replace it, you can get the part through them.

SOURCE: viking range burners won't light

All of these ranges have a spark module at each burner sight and they all click when ever you attempt to light one burner. Therefore, it can not be assummed that the spark module for those nonworking burners are actually clicking. Remove the burner covers and actually look for the sparks. If there is no spark make sure the connections are nice and tight. IF they are, you most likely need to replace the spark module.

After turning on either of the ovens in my Viking gas range, they will intermittently make a hissing sound followed by a series of popping sounds with a gas odor and they are very slow to heat.

call a gas fitter as you have a problem with the jets/ supply that is creating a dangerous situation leaving unburnt gas ( you can smell ti) that could cause an explosion

Viking VGIC oven burners ignite but cycle off repeatedly temperature rarely gets to 300 after 30 minutes. If igniters ignite is problem elsewhere - like bad bi-metal valve? Range and broiler work OK,

There is a sensor that detects the oven temperature, it must be defective and sending a signal that oven is at set temperature and this shuts off the gas valve.

My Viking range is making a gushing noise when the

I have the exact same range and the same problem. There was also a gas smell that burned my eyes
The whooshing sound is because there is too much pressure in the burner, forcing some of the gas to come out where the orifice goes into the burner. I know this because there was a carbon build up in that location.
It turns out that the oven burner was drilled and then formed into the "u" shape while very hot. That distorted the holes in the burner. I got a small drill the same size as one of the "good" round holes and re-drilled all the holes in the burner. The only thing to be aware of is the "cross over" holes that go from one side to the other are a little smaller then the main holes that go around the perimeter. Now there is no smell, no whooshing sound and it works beautifully. Needless to say, we were very disappointed having spent the extra money for a supposedly "quality" product only to have it perform badly with no service man with any knowledge of the problem. I went through the whole range just to check it out. I found 22 problems. Mostly small, but things that should not have been allowed to get through quality control. Seems there is very little of that in Vikings Mexico plant. One thing in particular that was a safety issue (other than the oven burner) was a plastic grommet meant to protect a wire going through some sheet metal. The grommet was too small and was just sitting around the wire instead of locking into the hole in the sheet metal. Thusly, the wire was aloud to "chafe" on the metal where it went through. I suggest you look very carefully at as much of the range as you can, just to be sure. Good Luck, Wade

Occasional gas smell

If you have a burner lit and gas build up, strong smell etc., my advice would be to stop using the oven immediately! You no way gas should come out, build up, to the point you smell it, Especially while a burner is lit. Dangerous condition.

Swithed to LP

Natural Gas has a pressure at about 1/4oz psi. Propane runs at a much higher pressure 8 psi to 15 psi. For your safety do not use the oven until it is garenteed that the oven is rated for LP Gas!
Hope, this helps, Sea Breeze

Viking gas range makes a skskkkksssss noise when using the oven intermittenly

It sounds as though air/gas mixture needs to be adjusted.

Close the port on the burner so it has about 1/4" open.

If this doesn't work then the orifice may be a size or 2 too big and needs to be reduced

Viking oven

We had a hurricane come through and power was out at our house for 2 weeks. The top burners worked but the oven would not. Our outside gas grill worked perfectly also using the utility provided natural gas. We were told by Viking that the oven is designed to work only when there is electric power. This is a safety feature, according to Viking.
