Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

Can't find wireless Signal

I'm trying to connect my HP Laptop to my girlfriend's wireless Router, but it can't seem to even pick up the signal. I'm pretty sure her network is an AirPort network for Macs, and my laptop is a PC, but the fact is i don't even get a wireless signal when teh router is right next to me.

She has a Mac Book and a Mac computer that are both connected to it wirelessly. Her router is a NEC Aterm router and when i tried to use HP wireless support it gives me no information about connecting to this kind of router. Please help cause i'm going to be here for a year, and having no internet is going to be the worst thing ever

ok, so i got into the wireless page, the whole thing is in japanese, and i'm pretty sure that they don't have a SSID enable or disable button...but i noticed the signal shows up when i manually connect to the wireless network, the only thing is internet still doesn't work..even though i'm connected, it says limited connectivity...i tried changing the security to wep and all that jazz with no results...ideaS?

hey I just wanted to say after messin around for about 5 hours, using ur help as a guide line i got the internet working...the final result was messin around with the router website...and i actually got lucky cause the whole thing was in japanese, it turns out that, there was one thing that was on 1 the whole time, and when she turned on her desktop mac, the 1 turned into 2, and noticing that, i started thinkin about, what if, that box,(whatever it means) meant number of computers allowed to connect to teh network, so i decided to switch it to 3, and as soon as i did that, the router was found~!! i was so happy, but thank you so much for your help!!

Make sure her router is configured to broadcast the SSID as that can either be disabled or enabled. Once thats enabled and you still cant see it try and set it to different wireless channels and change the wireless network mode to 'mix"

You must connect manually at first as your computer doesn't recognize the network yet.

If you have windows Vista you must go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center>Under Sharing and Discovery make sure "Network Discovery" is "On" .

Next click on "Connect to a Network", look for her wireless network name and click "Connect"

Next click on "Manage wireless network" and double-click on her network

On the "Connection" tab check "Connect automatically when this network is in range" also check "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting".

On the Security tab ask her if she uses authentication and if so what type so you configure your connection with her network. If she doesnt have Security enabled you should also check "No authentication (open) " and click "OK".

That should get you connecting !

You can also connect a cat5 cable directly from the network port of your laptop to the router port

That is because the WI-FI antenna wires were on the LCD panel behind the glass.

Currently your laptop base has no signal. The only solution is that you may pick up a signal with the base alone, if it is near the wireless router about 20' (3 meters).

You would connect a laptop from Canada the same way as one from the US. You want to make sure the wireless card is turned on and check for wireless networks. Once you have found your network select it make sure you type the password correctly.

Can no longer pick up router signal

Does the wireless light still lit on the router? You can try changing the channel on the router (1 6 or 11) ans moving the antenna. If those things did not work upgrade the firmware of the router and reset to factory default. Do not forget to save the configuration file before you reset to factory default.

Lose router signal everytime i restart my laptop

This seems to be an issue with the router itself. As the laptop is able to connect to other networks easily, the trouble seems to be with the router.

Try updating the firmware on the router. Also, change the wireless channel on the router and check if that helps. If the issue persists then I believe you will have to get the router replaced.

Wireless connection issues (to be origional lol)

Is your desktop pc still working fine.., clear your preferred wireless networks in your laptop, try searching for the wireless network again, check if you are abe to pick up any other wireless network in your laptop, so that you can conclude whether the problem is with the laptop or the router..if not try reconfiguring your wireless settings in your wireless router and check it out ,that will fix your problem..all the best..
